16-year-old girl fatally shot after high school football game in Long Beach

October 31, 2009 |  7:27 am

A 16-year-old girl died after a shooting following a football game at Wilson High School in Long Beach. Two people were wounded.

Long Beach police spokeswoman Sgt. Dina Zapalski said the shooting occurred Friday night at about 10 p.m., just as people were leaving a football game between Wilson and Long Beach Polytechnic.

Zapalski said details were still sketchy. LB Report said that a 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and that the gunman was still at large.

Long Beach police interviewed students and others who were in the area near 10th Street and Ximeno Avenue.

It's unclear whether the victims were students at Wilson or Poly.

Apparently the Times has a policy of not publishing descriptions, sketches or photos of most criminal suspects.

Who won the game?

When are these White kids going to learn...you can't go through life settling your problems with gun play...the victim's family suffers...the kid who shot her will suffer in prison for 10-15 years...

White kids!!!!! Hahahahaha That's a good one. We all know who they really are... Just fill in the blank: _________

The Los Angeles Times is going bankrupt because it is a Black Supremist Newspaper. They print anything anti-white, but don't print anything anti-black. I give this racist newspaper that is the worse of bigotry two years.

Remember, per CA law loaded firearms are illegal to possess outside of your home.

OBVIOUSLY, some people posting here know nothing about Long Beach people and nothing about Long Beach schools, so I don't want to read your personal raging rants...if you have issues, go see a professional!!

i was walking to Starbucks with a few of my friends when we heard the shots.
we thought at first maybe it was balloons popping or something, then everyone started saying that was a gunshot. the people at Frogurtz told us to go to the back of the store until police came. A police man asked me if i knew anything, then he left.

What has become of our youth? Facilitys for fun like football games take a deadly turn...A prom in Richmond results in a girl being raped for over two hours.
Everyone points the finger except at themselves.
Mercy mercy me....things ain't what they used to be...

The young lady killed was an honor student and just a good person from what I have read seen on the news. When I was in high school some years ago, we had fist fights only, nothing like this at football games. Just another senseless murder in LA County.

It's so depressing to see this latest generation of little animals. Just drive by any school in L.A. County as it lets out, and you'll see the future of this once great country. It's truly disgusting. What is this city going to look like a generation from now?

Another honor student killing? Is this for real?

Maybe there's no suspect photos/descriptions/sketches because the police haven't released any. Check out http://www.longbeach.gov/civica/press/display.asp?layout=4&Entry=2662. The police press release distributed on Saturday does not have any description of the suspects, and I haven't seen anything posted since then. I haven't heard or seen any suspect photos/descriptions/sketches on any of the local TV stations or the Long Beach Press Telegram websites.

You have got to be kidding me. A young girl loses her life and Joe leaves the kind of crass comments that really make me lose faith in man-kind.

Show some decency.

Okay I lived in LB and went to Poly and just by the history of these types of incidents, my guess is that the shooter was not white.

This is the result of teen mothers and Babymamas raising ignorant children, somebody's ignorant, heartless, loser son has now cheated a beautiful bright young lady out of her promising future and life because he obviously has none. I really hope they catch him and through away the key. Even if they don't catch him Karma Will

To Melody Ross family, she was a beautiful and bright young lady from what I can see and have read. Very sad for your loss, this hurts me to hear something like this and I do believe that they will catch the thug who did this. I pray for your strength to get through this.
