Police seek driver of big rig that crashed into Monterey Park home

A big rig crashed into a Monterey Park home at the 500 block of Casuda Canyon Drive near Highlands Park. The driver is reported to have fled the scene. Credit: Barbara Davidson/Los Angeles Times Monterey Park police today were seeking the driver of a big rig that crashed into a home late Sunday, heavily damaging both the house and the truck.

The sole resident of the house in the 500 block of Casuda Canyon Drive, near Highlands Park, was uninjured when the truck ripped through her bedroom about 9 p.m., ultimately coming to a stop in a side yard, said Monterey Park Police Lt. Jess Alvarado.

“Luckily, she was mopping her kitchen floor at that time,” said Alvarado.

The home, which suffered extensive damage, was red-tagged and the woman was displaced, he added.

Street signs knocked down in the crash. Credit: Barbara Davidson/Los Angeles Times A witness saw the truck swerving to avoid a motorist on Corporate Center Drive before veering into the home. The driver is believed to have fled the scene.

“We assume he ran from the wreckage,” Alvarado said. Anyone with information is asked to call Monterey Park police at 626-307-1238.
