Firing range blaze breaks out at Camp Pendleton

September 3, 2009 |  8:34 pm

Fire of unknown origin broke out this afternoon on a firing range at Camp Pendleton, but firefighters aren't getting too close because there may be unexploded ordnance there, a Marine base spokesman said.

Instead, firefighters are watching to be sure the fire does not spread to any areas with buildings.

There was no size estimate of the fire immediately available, but it was not threatening any structures.
