A 75-year-old Costa Mesa man was arrested today after he allegedly shot his wife in the head, authorities said.

Kenneth Leake was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he apparently shot Doris Leake, 72, at their home in the 2000 block of Orange Avenue, said Costa Mesa Ppolice Sgt. Bryan Glass.

Police responded after a neighbor reported the shooting about 12:30 p.m. Responding officers found Kenneth Leake screaming outside his home, Glass said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where she is in stable condition and expected to survive.

Kenneth Leake is being held in lieu of $1-million bond at the Costa Mesa Police Department’s jail.
