Portion of Will Rogers State Beach reopens
At 1 p.m., lifeguards began removing signs warning visitors away from the ocean water, said Bernard Franklin, chief environmental health specialist for the recreational waters program at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
The closed section of the beach was about half a mile north and half a mile south of the storm drain, which is located about 100 yards south of the Will Rogers Lifeguard Headquarters at 15100 Pacific Coast Highway.
Franklin said sanitation workers fixed the sewage leak about 1 p.m. Thursday. Water samples taken from the beach area that day showed high bacteria levels, but samples taken Friday came back clean, Franklin said.
