Yucaipa wildfire grows to 100 acres

August 31, 2009 |  7:18 pm

Fire officials said tonight that the Pendleton fire in the San Bernardino County town of Yucaipa has grown to 100 acres and that 400 homes are now threatened. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Fremont Avenue north to Avenue E; Avenue E to Wildwood Canyon; and Wildwood Canyon east to Oak Glen Road.

Mike Horton, a spokesman with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, said an intense air attack is underway and so far the weather is cooperating.

He also said two teenage boys found by police in the area of the fire were not suspects but were simply trying to watch.
