Man shot to death in Sunland home

August 18, 2009 | 11:28 pm

A man was fatally shot when he tried to come to the aid of his employer during an apparent burglary at a Sunland home, police said this morning.

At about 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, several men entered the home in the 9700 block of Sunland Boulevard, said Sgt. Scott Kennedy of the Los Angeles Police Department. When the resident walked in on the men, they tied him up, Kennedy said.

An employee who lived at the same location tried to help the man and was shot, he said. That victim was pronounced dead at the scene. (Police later said the shooting victim was relative of the man he was trying to assist, not his employee.)

The resident was taken to a hospital and treated for unspecified injuries. The victims' identities were not immediately released.

It was not immediately clear how many assailants were involved in the incident.

“Homicide detectives are conducting an ongoing investigation with several leads,” Kennedy said.

Anyone with information is asked to call (877) LAPD 24-7.
