Sawtelle strip mall fire closes Santa Monica Boulevard

Fire damaged a two-story strip mall in the Sawtelle area today, prompting officials to temporarily close Santa Monica Boulevard.

More than 130 firefighters battled the blaze at 11850 Santa Monica Blvd. They got it under control by 6 a.m. and no injuries were reported, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department Twitter feed.

The cause was not immediately available.

Yeah, I heard the fire trucks go by. After the 5th group of sirens I figured this wasn't a typical house call. I could see the blaze from my balcony/rooftop. It was a 6-story bonfire coming out of a 2 or 3-story complex. It was nuts. My camera was out of batteries. But it burnt out pretty fast.
