Palisades mobile home park rent dispute could lead to bankruptcy

Big changes could be coming to a Pacific Palisades mobile home park whose owner is threatening bankruptcy. The owner has been battling the city of Los Angeles over his efforts to impose rent increases at the Palisades Bowl, according to the Palisadian-Post:

Richard Norris, attorney for Palisades Bowl mobile home park owner Eddie Biggs, told residents on August 5 that his client would like to sell the park to them. But Norris also warned the 75 residents assembled at the Woman's Club that if they do not make a legitimate offer, his client plans to declare bankruptcy because extended litigation involving several lawsuits with residents and with the City of Los Angeles is costing him more than he earns from leases. The 176-unit park, of which 156 spaces are leased, is located on 20 acres north of Temescal Canyon Road along PCH, and adjacent to Tahitian Terrace, a mobile park faced with similar issues.

What a disgrace; super rich people having to drive by that eye-sore daily; how much PAIN can rich people stand? Thank Gawd for "Doctors to the Stars"!

Residents already see how freezing the rent affects the quality of their lives. They must clean their own park. They must drive on the worn out pavemnet. They must consider how long their appliances will last and how effective they are. They must wonder how the frozen rent policy impacts other residents who came in later.
Or, they already know their next step is residential care, and they also know they will leave no equity to their children. They will leave their children with several interesting and cherished items from 1920-1950.Their children know they might be living with these folks in the near future if the rent control does not remain in effect and this may impact their decision to wholeheartedly support any legal action against Eddie Briggs who has put them into a bind.

Interested readers could check out this week's (August 20) Palisadian Post. I live in Palisades Bowl. My response to his interview is published as an Opinion Column. Many facts were misstated and are corrected.

I have had the unfortunate opportunity to deal with this property owner. He is a slime ball and a person to avoid at all costs. Even his own family has disowned him. True Fact!
