Man arrested in sexual assaults
A 22-year-old Los Angeles man has been arrested in connection with the robberies and sexual assaults involving four young women last month, police said today.
Everardo Carrada was arrested about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday at a service station near Figueroa Street and Slauson Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The first two incidents occurred within an hour of each other July 25, police said. A 20-year-old woman told police she was in the 6600 block of Figueroa Street about 2:30 a.m. and got into a red Mustang. She was taken to another location and sexually assaulted and robbed at knifepoint, police said.
A second woman, also 20, later told police she was in the area of 59th and Figueroa about 3:30 a.m. when she got into a red Mustang and was taken to another location and robbed and sexually assaulted, also at knifepoint.
A third victim, 18, was allegedly abducted at knifepoint three days later from Figueroa Street and Manchester Boulevard and told police she was robbed by a man driving a red Mustang. She was able to escape and was not assaulted, police said. A fourth victim, 16, was forced into a red Mustang on July 19 in the 200 block of West Imperial Highway, taken to another location and sexually assaulted at knifepoint, police said.
Police said Carrada was arrested after a person in a ride-along with a patrol sergeant advised the officer that a red Mustang like the one he had just described while discussing the case was not far away. The sergeant followed the car to a service station, where Carrada was arrested. Carrada also matched the composite drawing of the suspect, police said.
