Chula Vista wins Little League World Series; city hopes for boost.
The 6-3 victory by Chula Vista's Park View Little League team over Taiwan marked the first world championship since 1993 for a California team in the annual World Series tourney in South Williamsport, Pa.
In Chula Vista, Sunday's victory was celebrated at homes and gathering spots throughout the sprawling city, including Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Co., where hundreds of fans cheered and celebrated.
City officials hope the come-from-behind win brings new respect to a suburb often overshadowed by San Diego, 10 miles away, and its more affluent suburbs.
A civic celebration is set for Friday.

Wow, Very proud of that Chula Vista Team! I'm from L.A. but I never missed a game. My congratulations go to the coaching staff for a wounderful job they did with those youngsters. Solid fielding fundamentals and often neglected Hitting fundamentals. Great exmaple of rotational hitting, thus the power these kids exhibited!

David C. Chandler Being the X-1970-President of Parkview Little League of Chula Vista, and now a resident of Quartz Hill, CA. I watched the exciting series from the very start when they made the entry to Williamsport.
My hat is off to the Coaches & Managers of this fine team. The boys were trained excelletly and proved they are # 1.
I congratulate them on their 2009 World Series Championship.
I hope I made a difference. I know we spent many a days building the fields at Parkview in 1968/69.
Both my sons, Brian & Alan Chandler played on teams at this park. We started earlier at South Bay Little League were I earned my strips helping to build a field there and was a coach & Manager.
Building Parkview was no easy task, as all fields, Minor, Major & Pony required finding a site, C.V. city assistance with planning & permits, building dugouts, finding contractors, setting up fences and the biggest job of all, getting parents to pitch in.
My finest hour was when my # 2 son Alan, pitched a no hitter for the Minor Team "Red Socks".
