Man shot by Santa Ana police officer 'refused commands'

A man shot to death by a Santa Ana police officer “refused commands to stop aggressing on the officer” moments before the shooting, authorities said today.

The Tuesday night incident marked the second fatal shooting by Santa Ana police in less than a week.

Police were called to an alley near 2740 N. Grand Ave. about 7 p.m. because a man was "acting suspiciously" and pacing back and forth, said Cmdr. Jeff Owens of the Santa Ana Police Department.

When the officer arrived, the man “became verbally hostile and physically aggressive,” Owens said.

The officer shot him after the man refused to follow his order to stop, Owens said.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The incident follows a Friday night shooting in which an allegedly armed man was killed by Santa Ana detectives. The officers were following a vehicle in the 300 block of Jackson Street. When the driver pulled over, he ran away, police said.

A detective chased the man and fatally shot him, police said.

Sgt. Brad Hadley said Saturday that the man’s “movement and actions made the officer fear for his safety.” Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene.

aggressing?

nice job Obama. This is what happens when you teach people it's ok to give police a hard time.

He didn't obey ???
Well then of COURSE shoot em!!

Can't have that can we?

Police will always use the excuse, "fear for their safety" as a reason to shoot ANY individual. There is always an alternative to handle these matters, rather than to just shoot and kill!!

Wow! Sounds like the victim was high on drugs or something. I guess it's just much easier for the Police to just kill a person rather than to restrain him using non-violent means. The Police are a bunch of Gangstas!!!

typical of police...excuses...excuses...excuses. when will we rein in the cowboy mentality of shot em if they don't obey. the police seem to have certain rights the rest of us don't possess. they are allowed to kill at will with little or no consequences. the only benefit was if it was an illegal alien...then of course he was justified!

All pro police comments from Police. Agressive? Of the millions of common people every body is a suspect and agreesive or find someother silly reason to kill. As long as no courts convict these killings police go on and kill and no one knows if you are next

Police Protocol:
1- Shoot and ask questions later!
2- Claim you "felt threatend"!
3- Smile!!

why is the taser gun used sometimes and other times not?
why not tase someone in this situation? instead of shooting to kill?

One guy was--how do you say: "aggressing"--and the other guy who was running away was--how do you say: "regressing"--and he got shot, too. Puzzling dilemma, no?

Ah yeah dave. Ever try to restrain someone on drugs?
Yeah, thoughts so. You have no clue.
And if there is a weapon, sorry. Don't try to justify stupidity by calling our law enforcement gangsters.
If they (aggressive people) don't comply, it is justified.

If the Officer says, "put down your gun," do it or suffer the consequences!!!!!

you refuse, you lose. bottom line. it sounds like any real use of force wouldn't have happened otherwise.
