Coast Guard searching for missing sailor

The Coast Guard says a man is missing after his sailboat was found drifting off Catalina Island.

U.S. Coast Guard Spokesman Scott Epperson says Dennis Larson’s 8-foot dingy was found this morning about 14 miles from Catalina. No one was on board, but the sails were up and fishing gear was over the side.

Rescuers found a cellphone on board and used it to call Larson’s wife, who said he called her earlier from the boat.

Several Coast Guard boats and a rescue plane are searching the waters.
