Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Compton [Updated]

[Updated at 1:30 p.m.: Homicide detectives now say that the male who was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy Sunday afternoon was 16 years old. ]

Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances of an officer-involved shooting in Compton.

The shooting, which occurred near south Poinsettia Avenue and Alondra Boulevard, was reported at 3:43 p.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect, listed as a male adult, was transported to the hospital where he died. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
