Man accused of 'slam dunking' Chihuahua, causing its death

A San Jacinto man is accused of "slam-dunking" a Chihuahua to the ground, after which the dog had to be euthanized, according to police.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies arrested 44-year-old Javier Rodriguez Garza on Tuesday after he failed to show up for a mandated court appearance related to the felony animal-cruelty case, according to a Department of Animal Services press release.

Garza is accused of slamming his 3-pound, 10-week-old Chihuahua to the ground on April 13 after an argument with a woman.

Eric: Animals do not have to be the equal of mankind to be treated as a living being. The issue here is not whether the dog was treated as a human being. The issue is that the dog was killed in an unconscionable manner unbecoming of a living being. You have to get your head checked. Fellows like you need a good spanking.

I think YOU need to wake up and realize no one was saying a chihuahua is equal to a person- where exactly did you gather that information from? Just because a dog isn't equal to a person doesn't mean he deserves to have his head smashed into the ground. Animals although different from people, feel physical pain in the exact same way. If you don't understand what it means to have a central nervous system, which all mammals do, I suggest you get YOUR head checked and go back to school to learn basic biology. Shame you can't learn common decency- you either have it or you don't, and you sir, much like the dog killer in this article, clearly don't.

While it doesn't take much to want to slam dunk a yippy dog, there's no room for violence towards any animal. And as far as I'm concerned, the dogs are yippy because they are not trained properly. Shall we say, slam dunk the owners of yippy dogs? I have more respect for animals than I do humans at the end of the day. Hey, even myself! :)
