$500,000 in jewelry, cash and art stolen from Orlando Bloom

July 16, 2009 |  5:57 pm

“Pirates of the Caribbean” star Orlando Bloom’s Hollywood Hills home was recently burglarized, with one or more thieves stealing about $500,000 in jewelry, cash and artwork, Los Angeles police said today.

The break-in was discovered Wednesday night by a relative of the British actor, police said. The suspect or suspects were clearly familiar with the secluded home, sources said.

Bloom is the latest Hollywood celebrity to run afoul of burglars. In May, the Los Angeles Police Department released images of two burglars in a Dodge Magnum who tried to break into a home used by Lindsay Lohan.

In December, about $2 million worth of jewelry was stolen from Paris Hilton’s home, police said.

Also, a notorious burglary crew is believed to be responsible for break-ins at the homes of former Paramount Pictures chief Sherry Lansing, the Bel-Air mansion of basketball star Cuttino Mobley and the home of country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

It makes me feel like mega stars have the same concept of: "the real world" as the 95% of us...

mean guard dogs, well fed, with kevlar vests aught to do the trick

All of these celebrities that have hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry and artwork sitting around in houses they don't even occupy except when they are in town between parties! There are poor children around that could fed and clothed and educated with that money. We should feel sorry for the hungry people in the world, not the glitterati who had some of their unused toys stolen.

Good. Any man feels the need to own $500,000 worth of jewelry deserves to have it stolen.

I must be naive or poor...who keeps that kind of cash and jewelry in the home? Didn't they have a safe?

The lesson is: Don't keep extremely valuable things in your home anymore. You simply need to keep a safe deposit box for gold & jewels.. as for the art, who knows. Many of those innocent looking housekeepers and staff are no-doubt feeding information to loosely connected criminal networks. How else can these people get rich so quickly? It's like hitting the lotto or the motherlode, as opposed to diligently working at some job for "x" dollars per week. At the end of the day, the rationale of the criminal is that it's a crime against property, not people, and the people have insurance, so they'll be ok. Rich people need to understand, this problem has gotten a lot worse, not better.

I live in Florida and although we don't have a lot of big names living around us. It sounds like it is some one on the inside pulling the jobs. There is a link you just have to find it. Start looking out side the box not just inside. They all know some of the same people, They shop at the same stores, who looks after the homes when they are away? Who do they talk to befor they leave? Inside job all the way. Due to the fact that they are in and out before any one knows. Only a few people know the key codes to the home sys if they had one and that is staff and family and a few friends.
