Hikers rescued after call for help

Three hikers who had become disoriented and dehydrated were rescued by helicopter Saturday from the top of a precipice deep in the Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies reported. None of the hikers was injured.

Deputy Rick Pedroza said a sheriff's air rescue helicopter plucked two 28-year-old women and a 27-year-old man from the ledge of a 100-foot cliff near the Dawn Mine Trail in Millard Canyon. The emergency call came in about 12:15 p.m.

The hikers had been walking for more than four hours when they became disoriented and started to suffer dehydration, Pedroza said. They perched on the precipice to find shade under a few trees. After yelling for help for an hour to no avail, they finally were able to get cellphone reception and called for help.
