A 62-year-old man died Friday, four days after he saved a suicidal woman trying to jump in front of cars on a Fullerton street.

Charles Bybee of Norwalk was struck by a vehicle in the 1100 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue at about 8:45p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Eric Halverson with the Fullerton Police Department.

He was crossing the street after speaking with police and did not see a car coming. The car struck Bybee and he sustained head injuries. He was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center.

Bybee, who was known as a Good Samaritan in his community, died about 2:45 a.m. Friday.

What an incredible, inspiring man. I extend my sympathies to his family and hope they find comfort in the positive impression he has made on so many.

A man like this person deserves more news coverage for his unselfish actions and untimely death than so many "characters" that currently dominate the news. My condolences to his family and loved ones.

That's really sad. Bye Mr. Bybee....

Tremendously sad.

I do hope the suicidal woman re-evaluates her life, is able to get GOOD counseling, and can further improve her life in honor of this lovely man.

My heart goes out to her for the guilt she must now be suffering, and my thoughts go out for her rescuer's family.

Huh?? The 62 year old man risked his life to successfully save someone who wanted to lose theirs and then the police couldn't even ensure he safely got across the street after THEY detained him to get his story????? Mind Boggling - in this day and age of drastic cutbacks in our nation's police departments one has to wonder how these incompetents managed to save their jobs...
