The American Civil Liberties Union has asked a federal judge to bar the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department from closing a 1,600-bed jail near Castaic Lake without planning for the detrimental impacts such an action might have on other jails.
Sheriff Lee Baca recently proposed closing the North Jail Facility at Pitchess Detention Center starting Sept. 1 to deal with the county's growing budget crisis.

What part of we don't have any money does the ACLU not understand? Along with dozens of other organizations, they seem to feel that money will fall from the trees if they file a lawsuit. Everyone should know by now that the only people who have money in this state anymore are the unions and a high portion of government pensioners and employees and how politically viable is it to sue them? With the Unions trying to block government cuts at every direction with millions of dollars of ads and campaign contributions couldn't they have helped their causes more by giving money to allay the effects of some of those cuts. how about the teachers union spending money on education rather than union campaigning? oh wait, that would be like expecting them to put the children first by firing inadequate teachers and spending money in the classroom rather than protecting administrator's jobs.

Since they seem to care so much, perhaps ACLU would like to donate some of their proceeds to keep the jail in Castaic open?
