Boy hit by SUV while riding bicycle in Winnetka

A 9-year-old boy is being treated at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for serious injuries after a sport-utility vehicle hit him while he was riding his bicycle in Winnetka.

The unidentified boy was not wearing a helmet when he was struck about 8 p.m. Sunday in the 20300 block of Keswick Street, said Capt. Tina Haro of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The boy's bicycle was pinned underneath the SUV, said Det. Bill Bustos of the LAPD's Valley Traffic Division.

Neither speeding nor driving under the influence was considered a factor in the accident.

The boy was in serious condition Sunday night.

“We want to remind motorists to be on the lookout for children because it’s the summertime and more children will be out and about,” Bustos said.

Another kid bike riding without a helmet. when are the police going to take this seriously. 30% of children's head injuries in the US as from riding without a helmet. Who are the stupid parents that do not see to it that their kids have a helmet and use it?

The article makes it sound as if there was a driver-less SUV loose on the street...
