Autopsy planned in San Diego hot-tub death

July 13, 2009 | 10:57 am

A 39-year-old woman died after being found face down in a hot tub at a local hotel, the San Diego County medical examiner reported today.

Breta Bergin was found unresponsive Saturday morning in the Clarion Hotel hot tub. She regained a weak pulse after she was taken to the hospital, but her condition worsened and she was declared dead Sunday night at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

An autopsy is planned.

My father was ovecome by chlorine fumes in a hotel hot tub. He lost consciousness, slouched down, and my mother was there to hold onto him while I ran to call 911/hotel security. He regained consciousness in the hospital and remembered nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if this woman was exposed to the same sort of fumes. The hotel assumed no liability, but if he had been alone he would have drowned.
