16-year-old killed in Compton officer-involved shooting

July 6, 2009 |  1:30 pm

Homicide detectives say a 16-year-old male was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy Sunday afternoon in Compton. Earlier, police had reported the shooting victim was an adult male.

The teen, whose name is being withheld due to his age, had a loaded handgun when he was shot by a deputy on a routine patrol in Compton, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Detective Steve Blagg.  He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Blagg would not release other details such as the name of the deputy or the circumstances of how the shooting occurred. The incident is under investigation.

The shooting, which occurred near south Poinsettia Avenue and Alondra Boulevard, was reported at 3:43 p.m. Sunday, according to the sheriff’s department. Officials initially said the person who was killed was an adult.

So this is all the publicity he gets? And no one is here to blog? How sad.

that is the publicity he deserves. he was carrying a gun and could have shot and killed a officer. dont let your kids carry guns, take care of your kids and not let them out in the streets like criminals and this would not happen!!!!!!
no one wants to blog on it because its real life.....

Before anyone can pass judgment on this shooting i.e. lawyers, family, community...we as a responsible community has to underlying questions! One...why would and peace officer shoot an unarmed youth in the back?? and Two...why would an unarmed youth run for no reason?? If there is unanswered questions...we need to wait until we have the whole picture/facts before us! Enough with media community judgment! More with the factual judgment!

I am offended by the blogger who said he was carrying a gun. Just because they said he had one doesn't mean he did. I bet if it was your son, you would not be saying that. The police feel like they are god.

A thirteen year old can as easily pull the trigger as an adult.
How dare the sheeple out there even comment!
I can here it now, "He was only a child ! ", "Evil Poooooleeece ! "
How about the officer looking down the muzzle of a firearm, with some goblin at the other end.
I suppose the deputy should have at least waited until he was shot until he responded.
Perhaps the deputy should have been a sacrificial lamb, to set the young man on the straight and narrow.
"Poor empoverished youth, 'jus do'in what he had to...."
Right?
He must have assumed that the cops were gonna shoot him, so it was self defense.....right"
So the question(s) beg to asked
First of all, WHAT WAS THE THIRTEEN YEAR OLD DOING WITH A GUN!
WHERE WERE HIS PARENTS!
WHO WAS HE RUNNING WITH AND WHY DID THE PARENTS ALLOW IT!
WHY DID HE POINT A GUN AT THE POLICE/SHERIFF'S!
WHERE WERE HIS PARENTS!
I know, I know great case for gun control, if we didn't have these blankety-blank guns this would have never happened.....right!
HOW ABOUT CRIMINAL CONTROL!
WHERE WERE HIS PARENTS!
I can hazard a guess, that this will never make to the page.
Only bleeding hearts will be allowed to "blog"!
I'll bet the moderator is a........."moderate"

I previously commented about the shooting of a minor that was reported to me as being a thirteen year old.
It would appear that the individual shot, was sixteen!
Aside from the age, my comments stand!
And once again......WHERE WERE HIS PARENTS!
