July 9, 2009 |  7:01 pm

James Harris, author of "Santa Monica Pier: A Century on the Last Great Pleasure Pier," will present a free lecture at 7 p.m. July 29 as part of the pier's centennial celebration. Harris will begin his lecture at the pier aquarium, 1600 Ocean Front Walk, at beach level beneath the carousel. Starting about 7:50 p.m., he will lead a walking tour of historic points along the pier.

Seating in the aquarium for the lecture is limited to 50. Call (310) 393-6149, Ext. 106, for reservations, which are required. Others are welcome to take the walking tour; meet on the north side of the carousel building to join the group.
