Two die in crash of experimental plane in Santa Clarita [Updated]
Two people died about 12:10 this afternoon when the experimental, single-engine plane in which they were flying crashed in the 27000 block of Triumph Avenue in Santa Clarita, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman said. The cause of the crash was not known.
Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the Lancair aircraft was registered to an Encino resident. He said he could not release the tail number because the victims' relatives had not been notified.
He added that he did not know where the flight originated or where the plane had been headed. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
[Updated at 5:38 p.m.] According to FAA records, the plane was registered to Ron I. Weiss, 43, of Lake Encino Drive in Encino.

I've known Martin Weiss and his family for many years. They are warm, generous and loving people, who took Tony in as one of their own family. The world will miss both Tony and Ron and I wish the best for both of their loving families.

Tony Crippen was one of our family's dearest friends. In a town of high-achievers, he stood out as down-to-earth, genuine and humble. I don't think he ever hurt a fly. He had survived 30 years of dialysis and had recently gotten a kidney transplant. This is particularly sad because he felt that he had been given a second chance at life and he was pursuing a new career and a new love. God bless you Tony...there is a big hole in the Palisades without you.

Tony - you will be missed dearly, you were a genuine friend and I know how special you were to David (Jin) - you were his first friend in the US and held such a special place in his heart. I know you were doing something that you loved and hope that you are resting peacefully. You will be missed

I was a dialysis buddy of Tony. He truly was a great person and friend. He had a passion for flying and use to play a computer game were you fly a plane on his laptop at dialysis. I will miss you Tony. May both men rest in peace.

Ronnie was and will always be, the most amazing Step Father a girl could ask for! He touched our family in soooo many different ways! He helped me through the most trying time in my life and also showed my mother how to live! I am going to miss you so much Ronnie! I am going to miss your daily text messages and all the phone calls in between! I want all this hurt and pain to go away from my mother and I dream every night that you are going to walk through our doors and run to my mom and just hold her...
I miss you Ronnie!
Rest in Peace! May your soul sore high above us! I will see you again soon!
GO TEAM!!!!

Hi Becky Weiss, I am an old friend of Ron's from Meadow Oaks school. Ron and I use to wrestle and fight as friends would do with each other. I did not see Ron for many years and one day he just showed up at my house, no longer a little guy from elementary school but a big muscular guy wanting his revenge.
I have not been seen Ronnie for at least 15 years and I have to let you know I feel the pain that you and everyone are going through right now. I also grew with Tony Crippen. He was my neighbor for all of my younger years. I hope you stay strong and know that Ronnie will always be watching over you. He will guide you to happieness and love all over again. In hard times you may wonder if life is worth living, I can tell you that with all your pain will come a new life full of happieness that you thought you would never experience again. Stay strong, keep an open mind, and Ron will make sure you are happy again. Craig Framer, Thousand Oaks, CA.
