Quake rattles northern San Luis Obispo County

June 20, 2009 | 10:08 am

A light earthquake rattled northern San Luis Obispo County early this morning, setting off car alarms and a slew of calls to police, but no damage has been reported, officials said.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the magnitude 4.4 quake struck at 5:32 a.m. and was centered about eight miles southwest of Lake Nacimiento and about 15 miles west of Paso Robles.

San Luis Obispo County Sgt. Steve Himmelrich said that dispatchers felt the quake and that several people called to confirm that an earthquake had occurred.

“Some people need reassurance,”  Himmelrich said. “You’d think they’d be used to it by now; they’re living in earthquake country.”

Himmelrich said there were no reports of damage or injury.
