Michael Jackson is dead [Updated]

Latest news: Pop star Michael Jackson dead at 50

Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead today after paramedics found him in a coma at his Bel-Air mansion, city and law enforcement sources told The Times.

Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told The Times that paramedics responded to a 911 call from the home. When they arrived, Jackson was not breathing.

The paramedics performed CPR and took Jackson to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda said. Hundreds of reporters gathered at the hospital awaiting word on his condition. The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said family members rushed to Jackson’s bedside, where he was in a deep coma.

The circumstances of Jackson’s death remain unclear. Law enforcement sources said that Los Angeles Police Department robbery-homicide detectives have opened an investigation into the death, though they stressed that there is no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

The detectives plan to interview relatives, friends and Jackson’s doctors to try to figure out what happened. The L.A. County coroner’s office will determine a cause of death. A Los Angeles Fire Department source told The Times that Jackson was in full cardiac arrest when rescue units arrived.

A doctor was in the house performing CPR on Jackson, said the source who asked not to be identified  because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Paramedics were called to a home in the 100 block of Carolwood Drive off Sunset Boulevard.

Jackson rented the Bel-Air home -- described as a French chateau built in 2002 with seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 12 fireplaces and a theater -- for $100,000 a month. The home is about a six-minute drive from UCLA Medical Center. Jackson has three children -- sons Prince Michael 7, and Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., 12, and daughter Paris Michael Katherine, 11.

Jackson, 50, died as he was attempting a comeback after years of tabloid headlines, most notably his trial and acquittal on child molestation charges.

In May, The Times reported that Jackson had rented the Bel-Air residence and was rehearsing for a series of 50 sold-out shows in London's O2 Arena. Jackson had won the backing of two billionaires to get the so-called "King of Pop" back on stage.

His backers envisioned the shows at AEG's O2 as an audition for a career rebirth that could have ultimately encompassed a three-year world tour, a new album, movies, a Graceland-like museum, musical revues in Las Vegas and Macau, and even a "Thriller" casino. Such a rebound could have wiped out Jackson's massive debt.

que la paix soit avec toi mickael

From Spain:

Repost in peace Michael. Wherever you are, thanks for all Michael. You have make feel us so happy.

A very talented and screwed up person. I won't call him a 'man' because from what I've read he never became one. I'm sorry he didn't live long enough to get his head on straight. He could have been so much more.

I feel so sad on hearing the news. I hope the world realises that we have lost a true giant in the world of entertainers and in music. Look what he did in London (2009). He sold out more tickets for city then anybody in history. And at the age of 50 years old. If any of you have been to a Michael Jackson concert, you will know that you always got value for money. Such was his showmanship and musical ability. I was lucky to see him in the Bad tour at Wembley stadium. And I have never seen anything like it. It was the best concert that I have ever been to.

Like him or not, he was our generation(1980's) - Elvis or the Beatles.Where ever he went in the world he drew attention.

He was the last great entertainers that was on par with Elvis or the Beatles.

I will never ever forget the scramble for tickets that happened over here (2009) for the Michael Jackson "This is it" tour tickets when he officially announced that they were available. I have never seen so many people from all walks of life, creeds, colour or nationalities wanting to get their hands on tickets just for him.

Just take this on board he single handily made MTV the network what it is today, and allowed for black artists to be viewed on these style shows properly.

He was so important to the Music Industry. When he released an album it almost became a topic that could have debated in Congress (USA), or in Parliament (UK). It seemed as if the whole music industry stopped whenever he bought out an album.

When sales came back from a poor selling album it was considered a disaster. But disaster for him would be a major coup for any other artist. He could sell 10 to 12 million records for a recently released album for instance, and yet for anybody else that would be considered not bad. In fact great.

He was at one stage like Elvis and the Beatles, he was bigger then the music industry.

America please recognise that....

My heart goes out to his three children. May MJ rest in peace in the eternal Never, Neverland.

Addio Michael.

Such a sad day.
He was a truly great artist. He will be missed my his family, fans and the world.
May he rest in peace.

God be with the jackson family. Rip mike. Hope its greener on the otherside.

RIP micheal jackson you will always be in our hearts.

thank you for the music

This is the hugest blow to the american youth since Cobain. He joins the sadly too long list of greats that were taken before their time: Hendrix, Morrison, Lennon, Cobain, Jackson.

can´t believe this is really true...
michael, you gave us such wonderful songs, we grew up with your music.... RIP

Thanks for all Michael, your songs are beautiful, my father now have 35 years old, he´s your best fan, he has all your videos in a DVD, and your best songs in a original 2-disc edition, your best songs are:

*Beat It
*Earth Song
*Smooth Criminal
Even More.....

You are the King of Pop, the King of People, even the King of Love; God bless you

No matter what others said, YOU ARE NOT DEAD
I´m crying in this moment, I´m not sad, I´m happy.
I´m happy because i know that your soul will rest in the heaven, in the right hand of God

I grow up with you, and will continue growing with you

Too much for just a single day!! Farrah Fawcett and now, Michael!!! Brazil is really shocked! We have unconditional love with both!! Que o Senhor tenha compaixão de suas almas e os conduza para uma vida eterna ao seu lado.

Rest in peace.

this is one of those "where were you" moments for me-aside from his personal life i have a great respect for who Micheal Jackson was as an entertainer. This is the closest I've come to crting in many years. :_(

Michael, you give me and my high school buddy a wonderful memory time that i never forget. Thank you very much. We will miss you.
