Early-morning police search snarls 405

June 16, 2009 |  6:11 am

Authorities said this morning that most lanes of southbound Interstate 405 in the San Fernando Valley were shut down while Los Angeles police looked for a burglary suspect.

Police said officers believed the suspect was in a storm drain and were trying to draw him out.

California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball said all southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down at Roscoe Boulevard shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday, with a pair of lanes opened about an hour later.

Morning traffic was backed up for miles on the very busy freeway.
