Husband, wife stabbed to death in Ventura home [Updated]
Police are looking for a man who stabbed and killed a man and his wife, who was believed to be pregnant, in front of their 9-year-old son at their seaside home in Ventura County.
The man, wearing a black motorcycle helmet and dark jumpsuit, entered the home in the 4200 block of Faria Road through an unlocked sliding door that faces the ocean about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Ross Bonfiglio.
The boy was watching TV and his mother was in the kitchen when the man confronted her. The husband rushed out of the bedroom, and the intruder attacked both of them, stabbing and killing them, Bonfiglio said.
Their 11-year-old daughter was asleep in a bedroom at the time. Neither of the children were hurt. Police say the boy saw the initial confrontation and various aspects of the crime.
The woman’s aunt told police the victim was four to five months pregnant, but police have not independently confirmed the information.
The attacker fled, exiting the house through the sliding glass door, but no witnesses saw a vehicle leave the scene.
“It’s a needle in a haystack, we don’t even know if he was on a motorcycle,” Bonfiglio said.
There was no indication the man knew the family, he said.
“That’s the big question," he said. "We don’t know if it was completely random and we’re dealing with a psychopath, or if they were targeted for some unknown reason.”
Updated at 10:55 a.m.: Neighbors identified the couple as Brock and Davina Husted.
