Santa Barbara fire: Injured firefighters remain at burn center

May 7, 2009 |  8:15 am

Three Ventura County firefighters injured in the Jesusita fire in Santa Barbara are still at the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks this morning.

The firefighters were part of an emergency strike team trying to protect homes in Mission Canyon. As of Wednesday night, they were listed in serious but stable condition, said a spokesman for the burn center.

Two of the firefighters had moderate burns, and the other suffered from smoke inhalation. All were alert when admitted.

More information on their conditions is expected after 9 a.m.

Five other firefighters suffered minor injuries in the Santa Barbara wildfire, and all but one were later put back on the fire line, officials said. The fifth person sustained a head injury.

Here's an update on the injured firefighters.
