Riverside County debates who gets the best toilet paper

May 7, 2009 |  3:41 pm

Riverside County government is becoming the focus of many jokes over what some might call Bathroom Tissue Gate. It turns out that the restrooms of top county leaders are stocked with high-end bathroom tissue while the rest of the county workforce gets cheaper toilet paper. The back story is pretty amazing, involving a county supervisor who has been complaining for some time about toilet paper texture and bureaucrats trying to please him. And now, workers are complaining about a double standard. The Press-Enterprise's Dan Bernstein has some fun with the controversy:

Not until an anonymous RivCo employee exhibited a heightened state of disgruntlement, had I given a single thought about the toilet paper taxpayers provide for county supervisors. But, oh, the power of disgruntlement. Angel Soft. This is how the supes roll. Their staff uses Angel Soft, too. The county exec officer and staff? Touched by an Angel. The rest of the county work force? The Devil with them! Therein lies the disgruntlement. But this soon may change.
