Man charged in connection with fatal hit-and-run at USC

May 12, 2009 |  6:25 pm

A man whose wife is accused in the fatal hit-and-run of a USC student was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after authorities said he pulled an injured man off the hood of the vehicle and left him.

Josue Luna, 33, was arrested at the Mexican border April 18 and is free on $50,000 bail, authorities said. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

His wife, Claudia Cabrera, faces the same charge and a charge of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

Luna was a passenger when his wife sped through a red light on March 29 at Jefferson Boulevard near Hoover Street, near the university, according to police. The 2000 Infiniti sedan struck two students in the crosswalk, killing Adrianna Bachan, 18, and severely injuring Marcus Garfinkle, 19.

Investigators said that after Garfinkle was carried 300 to 400 feet on the windshield, the car stopped and Luna pulled the student off. Luna got back in the car and held the windshield in place as his wife drove off, police said. Garfinkle suffered multiple injuries, including broken legs.

Cabrera was arrested a few days after the incident. Luna was detained  April 18 after attempting to cross back into the United States from Mexico.

It looks like the lives of the children of the University of Southern California are of minor relevance to the judges and the City of Los Angeles ! This universities citizens and students contribute through their integrity, perseverance, love of education and lastly their overpaid monetary revenue . As Ms. Bachman came from such a lovelly community as Santa Barbara I think the University of Santa Barbara and it's community would have served her better in her passing had this occurred there. (and it should not have occurred in any collegiate environment) . This is truly pathetic and another display of the lawlessness and arrogance against the "great citizens" of this city~so sad for this family and really sad for the city of Los Angeles.

let me guess--they were either illegal immigrants from Mexico or one or both of them had outstanding warrants. Disgusting behavior.

Wait, they let a man -- who cowardly abandoned his wife to run away to Mexico -- out on bail?

What is this guy going to get, 6 months?

Here we go again some horrible crime that probably has to do with illegal immigration. Close the border, deport.
