Harbor City high school football player shot dead
An 18-year-old football player from Harbor City's Narbonne High School was shot dead Sunday night while eating at a Compton restaurant.
Dannie Farber, an All-City receiver who helped Narbonne earn a co-City Section championship last fall, was at the Louisiana Fried Chicken in the 1900 block of Rosecrans Avenue when he was killed. Farber was set to graduate on June 19.
"He was sitting there eating dinner with some girl," said Coach Manuel Douglas. "They walked in and shot him four times." Farber died of multiple wounds to his torso.
Sgt. David Infante of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said today that sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating the shooting, which occurred at 9:39 p.m.
Douglas said Farber had made "a lot of big plays." He caught a four-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter in a city semifinal playoff game that rallied the Gauchos to a 25-24 victory over Crenshaw High School and enabled the team to reach the championship game at the Coliseum.
"He was a real good kid," said assistant coach Byron Moore Sr., who had known Farber since coaching him in youth football. "He wasn't involved in any gang. It's a tragic loss. He was always full of energy."

If the punks are brazen enough to walk up to someone and shoot them, then they should wait until the police come but no, they are punks and cowards who can't fight but can pull out a gun and shoot defenseless people.

This is just an awful thing. When..when will it end?

This is awful!..when will this end. Young people trying to make something of themselves are then killed. Not good.

i did not read of an investigation into the shooting or if they were looking for suspects. He was at the prime of his life when it was taken from him possibly by someone on another team that he beat and wanted him out of the way. I am sure it wasn't gang related it was hatred.

I just read the story over and find it was Crenshaw High School he beat therefore it could have been four students from that High School. Its probably too early for suspects in this case however, sometimes they have a person or persons in mind but cannot say who right away unless they are absolutely sure. The girl he was with should have been able to give a description of them. Let's hope they find them quickly. He lost his life and they lost theirs because they will be in prison no doubt for life.

Long as the LAPD is soft on gangs, this is going to happen.
If you are a gangbanger or even look like one, go to jail.

why do black people continue to kill each other? what is it about taking a life that they feel validates them?
Posted by: confused | May 25, 2009 at 04:55 PM
I am so sorry for this families loss. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever that people are going around killing innocent folks. This young man had his entire life in front of him, doing something positive. If your life isn't what you want it to be, then you need to look at yourself and stop blaming others.

Oh my God! Jamiel Shaw last year, and now this... Will it ever end?

i feel for the parents of this boy. From all accounts he had his life on track, he was on a football team, set to graduate and go to college. A life lost to a coward with a gun. and until we rise and punish these people who allow this and people who do this with eye for an eye. We will continue to have people like this commit crimes and be let go by the liberal polticians we have in this country.

White rasim pulled that trigger

Why does something like this happen to an 18-yr-old kid about to graduate from high school?

Another life of promise has been taken away--and for what?

The comment by ObamaSoulja, that it was White hate is so out of line. It wasn't Whites that killed Jamiel Shaw and you can bet it wasn't a White who killed this boy. Stop the anti-white racism and look around at who and what is doing these crimes. The victims of these crimes are our American children and public, and we Americans come in all colors. But what we have in common is we're American and we need to stand together because gangs are the enemy, and they are always Americans.

Individuals like Obama Soulja are the worst kind of bigoted racist. It betrays his own inadequacies to look beyond his own limited abilities to reason.

Please do not use this boy's death as your personal crusade against people, religions, the government, whatever. This was a child with a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. His death is being felt across our entire campus today. Please, use your time and energy to create something positive on this planet. Be a mentor; be a support; be a positive example. Our children need us. Dannie was loved and will be missed. Do the people around you know they are loved?
