Porn star Marilyn Chambers found dead in L.A. County home
Marilyn Chambers, a former Ivory Snow detergent model who became a porn star, died Sunday at her Canyon Country home. She was 56.
Chambers, whose real name is Marilyn Ann Taylor, was found unresponsive at 8:51 p.m. at her residence it the 16000 block of Vasquez Canyon, said Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter. The cause of death is under investigation but foul play was not suspected and an autopsy is pending.
Chambers became a pop culture phenomenon when she gave up work as a model advertising Ivory Snow laundry detergent to star in the X-rated "Behind the Green Door" in 1972.
The movie also sparked a buying frenzy on boxes of Ivory Snow soap, then graced by Chambers' angelically complexioned face.

Times obituary: Marilyn Chambers dies at 56; '70s porn star and Ivory Snow model

I remember her well from the 1980s at the Casino Royal -- "The place to come to meet and eat". Ah, those were the good old days.
She loved everybody in Pittsburgh -- and everywhere else too.
In loving remembrance, Boston Bob.

I just became friends with Marilyn Valentines Day of 2009. I gave her a beautiful portrait of her and my dear friend Seka together that was taken at the Los Angeles Erotic Film Festival years ago and she loved it. She just told me about a great present she had for me. We laughed and she spoke of her start in modeling. I was going to do all my Easter calls today but was woken up with this news. I've had so many friends take flight. The first was Savannah and GQ magazine ran five of those photos that we had created for my fashion assignment at school. I had an amazing shoot in my head for Marilyn. I'm appreciating the day and walking along the beach today with that smile of yours in my heart. I'll see you on the other side. Thank you for your stories, knowledge and most of all kindness.

My heart is truly heavy tonight. I never knew Marilyn Chambers, but she also had a huge impact on my life. I think the entire adult industry owes her a debt of gratitude for exposing the adult genre to the mainstream market. In addition to her impact on the adult video world, she also had a political agenda which culminated in a run on the ballot as VP candidate (anyone remeber what party?). I am sorry that some don't recognize her passing as the loss of a beautiful, thoughtful, and foreward thinking woman. I wish her family and friends peace on their jounrey ahead.

She sounds like the product of the modern liberal I want it now attitude that is so typical of California. Let all the filth that exploited her by supporting the porn industry pay for her funeral. Maybe they will go to her funeral to get their jollies off. What a sick industry and a sick state of mind.

There are some judgemental people who contributed comments and if you are a believer, you should know that it is not your place to be judgemental. If you've stayed on the strait and narrow path you should be humble and get down on your knees and thank GOD. Living the right way is its own reward and one shouldn't wish ill upon anyone. If you think her life was tragic why don't you say a prayer for her soul with all of your might?

Yes it is our place to judge in righteousness. If we don't or a can't judge good from evil; right from wrong then we are deceived. And if we are deceived how can we discern holiness. And without holiness "no one shall see the Lord"
>>why don't you say a prayer for her soul with all of your might?
There is no longer any hope; thus prayer 'for her soul" are useless at this point. Repentance from evil is for this life only. Judgment with its rewards or consequences are reserved for the hereafter.
>> Are you GOD?
No, but we stand in His place on earth to judge right from wrong. We are His salt and light. If you are not in the light, then you are in the darkness and unable to see where you are going. And like Marilyn, will walk right into that pit; forever confined from which there is no hope.
Marilyn lived and walked in spiritual darkness as is all those who lift her up as a "standard".

What to make of her? By all accounts, Chambers was a pretty decent even ordinary person whose profession was pornography. What I saw of her stuff was not brutal, vicious or sadistic porn and she had no stunt like Ms Lovelace. In fact, her porn was rather nicely done. But she really awakens rage in people and under their rage seems to be some deep terror of her as if she had the power to destroy civilization by having sex in public and being paid for it. I'm curious what women think of her,

What happened to (excuse the paraphrase) "Do not judge lest ye be judged." Telling people that you believe doing certain things are wrong or that certain things will lead to hell and damnation isn't a terrible thing, trying to help them. But chiming in when someone has just died and telling us they're in hell isn't very loving. How do you know she wasn't repentant before the end? At the very least, if you thought she lead such a terrible life, you could have mentioning feeling some sort of sympathy or sadness or maybe giving us the "may God have mercy on her soul". If you're a Christian, you should try remembering the word "Christ" is in there.

I want to start this off by saying that I have never heard of Marilyn Chambers until now, and I'm really just addressing two hypocrites who are bringing shame to my religion.
To James Johnson AND Marcus--I sincerely hope you're not making these statements from a Christian standpoint, because it's a well known belief in Christianity that the only Being able to judge and condemn is God...
Your job as a Christian is to THINK about others more than yourself--and I say "THINK" because self-righteous Christians always find a way to replace "THINK" with "JUDGE". It is NOT your God given purpose and right to judge others, there is only one chief supreme justice in this world-God Almighty.
My advice to you is to quit spending so much time at church where (unfortunately) the modern world has taken the original idea of church and transformed it into a sanctuary of self-righteous condemnation, and start doing what God wanted you to in the first place--Read His WORD. And if you're not going to do that, then PLEASE stop condemning people you do not know from Adam to Hell while claiming to be a Christian. That's called being a hypocrite. The Bible's got some great things to say about hypocrites:
---PLEASE MARCUS AND JAMES JOHNSON TAKE THESE VERSES TO HEART, YOU WOULD IF YOU WERE A CHRISTIAN, AND LIKE ALL CHRISTIANS MUST DO, SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE, LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKE AND IF I WERE YOU, I'D APOLOGIZE TO GOD FOR TRYING TO DO HIS JOB THAT HE ALREADY DOES SO WELL!----
"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." -Matthew 6:14-15
"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have recieved their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
-Matthew 6: 5-6
"DO NOT JUDGE, OR YOU TOO WILL BE JUDGED. FOR IN THE SAME WAY YOU JUDGE OTHERS, YOU WILL BE JUDGED, AND WITH THE MEASURE YOU USE, IT WILL BE MEASURED TO YOU. WHY DO YOU LOOK AT THE SPECK OF SAWDUST IN YOUR BROTHER'S EYE AND PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE PLANK IN YOUR OWN EYE? HOW CAN YOU SAY TO YOUR BROTHER, 'LET ME TAKE THE SPECK OUT OF YOUR EYE,' WHEN ALL THE TIME THERE IS A PLANK IN YOUR OWN EYE? YOU HYPOCRITE, FIRST TAKE THE PLANK OUT OF YOUR OWN EYE, AND THEN YOU WILL SEE CLEARLY TO REMOVE THE SPECK FROM YOUR BROTHER'S EYE."
-Matthew 7: 1-5
And now, as a closer:
"Everything is permissible--but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible--but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others."
-1 Corinthians 10: 23-24
>>>>Your advice and condemnations are of someone who despite their career while on earth, still has family and friends who are devastated by a tragic loss. While your ignorant comments were permissible, as God tells you, they were definitely not beneficial or constructive, and here's why: 1. Marilyn Chambers has passed. Her fate is left up to God now, NOT EITHER OF YOU, and nothing you can say can change anything. 2. God says in his Word that believers should seek the good of others----The people that were left behind in Marilyn Chambers life are human beings who are grieving--and the CHRISTIAN thing to do is provide comfort and prayers--not comment on how their lost loved one is burning in Hell---ACCORDING TO YOU.
If you're such a devout Christian, and you love God so much, then quit trying to do his job. His Word makes it very clear in Matthew that He does not appreciate it...and HE makes it picture perfect clear how THEIR fate will be:
>>>>"For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery."
-Job 15:34

I met Marilyn years ago as "Insatiable" was doing it's world premier in KCMO. She was a wonderful person, very caring. She offered me a place to stay if I needed it (I was in a very difficult relationship at the time which had just came to a terrible end), a paid for hotel room as long as I needed it. She called my dad and brother and wished them a "Happy Birthday" one year even. We spoke several times on the phone for a few years then I lost contact with her. Those of you who are talking about "hell" and all of your judgements should remember that "we" should not judge others. Perhaps you will be the ones to find out what "hell" is like because of your judgement of others!

I actually got to know Marilyn back in 2000, very funny story actually but that is not the point. The point is that she was a very nice person, regardless of what you think about her as an adult performer.
Like anyone that is paid to act/perform, you don't really get to know that person other than what you see onscreen. I did, like some of the people that have made positive comments. She was a nice, caring person.
For all you people that made such hateful, deragatory remarks, you are the ones that truly have a problem, not her. I was more offended by some of the horrible statements made by some of these (good LOL) christians than anything that Marilyn might have done as an adult perfomer.
Thanks for a wonderful memory of having your friendship and I will miss you.

>> John from the Westside & K Goetz said - John : Chapter 8 Verse 7
You cite this verse to prove what? That Jesus somehow approved of her sin, the same way I am supposed to approve of porn? Or not to speak against it? You took the wrong message from the parable. Christ was encouraging mercy, because they wanted to kill her, not giving permission to commit sin or to excuse it.
You should read the rest of the chapter where He tells her: "go, and sin no more" Jhn 8:11
>> Ethan Shuster said - At the very least, if you thought she lead such a terrible life, you could have mentioning feeling some sort of sympathy or sadness or maybe giving us the "may God have mercy on her soul"
Human Sympathy or sadness for Marylyn is irrelevant at this point, and thus pointless. There is no hope for her. I will not indulge in it.
But there is hope for you all that are still alive. I will be clear again - mercy is for TODAY: if you REPENT. Expect no mercy after death if you have not sincerely sought change. You will only receive JUDGMENT.
God is both loving and judgmental. Merciful but also righteous. He is both fair and harsh. The lamb AND the lion. Read the parable of the unprofitable servant (Matthew 25:14-30), you will see.
But you know, I am not surprised at the reaction I am getting. Jesus said you can't serve two masters because you will love one and hate the other.
Therefore, if you love porn; if you love wickedness; if you love darkness - which is your master, you will hate what I am saying without a doubt. Because the words I speak are contrary to your desires which are evil. And naturally you refuse the light because you love darkness.
For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. (Jhn 3:20)

It's always interesting to read what people say Christians should be doing when 90% of the time, they don't know the first thing about living the life; they only feel deep down inside that they themselves are lost and without Jesus's saving grace. Always "judging" is totally misunderstood by the screamers. Jesus Christ also commanded his true believers to "take up their cross" daily for Him. Certainly, Jesus wanted Christians to warn the lost. The lost, however, never want to be warned.....you know who you are......

Speaking only for myself, of course, I had never heard of her and only clicked on the link to see why this story had generated so many comments in response.
I'm not a fan of porn in general, not because I find it "evil" or any such nonsense, but because very little of it is actually erotic, from my perspective, and often depicts women as objects of degradation.
But the most degrading porno flick in the world could not possibly offend me as much as the comments of those who delight in the death of another human being and condemn her soul to eternal damnation simply because they disagree with her profession and lifestyle. I admit I'm not a fan of bible-thumpers - and think organized religion poses a far greater danger to society than the adult film industry - but I would never wish for them to burn in the hell they're always blathering on about.
We have heard from several people here who actually knew Ms. Chambers, and all depict a caring, generous friend. I believe anyone who thinks her "sinful" occupation outweighs her good character should take a long look at themselves. But, in my experience, far too many so-called Christians are too busy pronouncing judgment on those with whom they disagree to examine their own lives. How such behavior renders one deserving of "heaven" is beyond me.

Marilyn Chambers was not a good person. She was a wicked and immoral woman who ruin many lives through sexual addiction and bondage.
She was unrepentant to the end. And because of her unrepentance, did not see heaven, but experienced judgment.
Had she repented, she would have been saved from eternal torment.
No one here "delights" in the death of the wicked. But fact still remains: a spade is a spade.
Posted by: Marcus | April 15, 2009 at 11:19 AM
Marilyn Chambers exalted in an industry that has enslaved millions through sexual addiction. It has damaged relations between men and women. God hates it.
Posted by: PJ | April 15, 2009 at 01:17 PM
Marcus:
How would you know if Marilyn Chambers was a good person or not? Were you her spiritual adviser? How do you know if she was unrepentant to the end? And just for the sake of argument, let's just say what she did as a career was "sinful" but she DID seek God's forgiveness at the end. Then she would be at God's side at this very moment.
I love religious people who act so holier than though. They're usually the ones who have the most skeletons in their closets. I wonder what's in your closet Marcus? I have a feeling there's some very wicked things in there and if you don't confess and ask for God's forgiveness, when you die you will be burning in a lake of fire, begging Marilyn for a drink to quench your thirst while she nestles in the bosom of Christ.
I feel pity for people like you.
Posted by: Andy in Chicago | April 15, 2009 at 01:18 PM
The person who goes by the name of Marcus is a complete idiot.
He writes of Marilyn being wicked and having eternal torment.
That is not up to him to decide.
God will judge.
Not Marcus.
It says in the Bible not to judge others.
Yet, so-called religious people do just that.
They will tell us who is going to hell and who is not.
People like Marcus are an insult to God and his word.
He does not even know what Marilyn was thinking in the end or of her relationship with God.
So Marcus is an idiot who thinks he knows all when in fact he knows nothing.
As for me, I believe that we should look for the good in people.
It makes the world a better place.
I think Marilyn would agree.
If Marcus read the Bible, he would agree as well.

>>George Vreeland Hill said: He writes of Marilyn being wicked and having eternal torment. That is not up to him to decide. God will judge. Not Marcus.
Making an assessment is not "deciding" anything. I can't and have no power to caste anyone into Heaven or Hell. But God does.
"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (Math 10:28)
>>Andy Said: How would you know if Marilyn Chambers was a good person or not?
Starring in and producing pornography is evil. Participating in evil things makes oneself "evil". In the same way an unrepentant murderer who is a murdering people is evil.
So you can know whether a person is good or not by the fruit they produce. A tree can only produce fruit of its kind. Your fruit are your works.
"Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither [can] a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit."
"Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire." (Matthew 7:16-19)
As early as 2005, this woman received the "FOXE" award for her lifetime porn career. I dunno - that doesn’t sound like someone who is repentant to me. Does it??!!

A friend of mine who lives in Canyon Country called me to to see how I was. I was sharing my memories of Marilyn with her when she told me she knew her through the animal rescue that she worked at. She told me that they didn't know anything about Marilyn but that Marilyn use to foster dogs and cats while they tried to place them in homes. She is very sad that she passed because she says, " In this economy it's hard to find people who will do that. We lost someone who really helped us out. She was on our list of people to call." It's a small world.

didnt Jesus say judge not unless you be judged and he who is without sin cast the first stone? i know he did and to sit there and judge some poor soul is just plain ugly, you do not and did not know her relationship with the Lord so how in the owrld ccan you say what you said?

Isn't it interesting how some narrow minded bible thumper on the internet will always get a plethora of replies? It's like barking back at an enraged dog. Would we all give some UFO enthusiast for example the same credibility that someone like Markass gets just because he knows how to push other people's buttons? On the subject of pornography, I wish it would go away. If it wasn't such a profitable industry you wouldn't have these young girls heading out to Chatsworth or wherever to sell their "souls" for a lifestyle and "cool" friends. They are ignorant, confused and easily manipulated children with visions of fame dancing in their pathetic heads. The people who control the business of "Adult Entertainment" (there's a euphemism suitable for the times) are heartless, aquisitive, and coldly opportunistic. Of course, their excuse and ability to look at themselves in the mirror is ALWAYS "We don't force them to do it. They're 18 and adults." I've met these people. They are nothing but drug dealers and the drug here is emotionless sex.

Marilyn,
I'm so sorry you have passed. We should celebrate the person and not condemn her. Ours is not to judge. Your death came to as such a surprise and a tragic loss. I saw you first in "Rabid" by David Cronenberg and then sought your other works. I will mourn you and miss you.
God Blesses Your Soul.

It is sad how she died in her trailer. I read once she was so in bondage that she had to ask her husband for permission to go to the bathroom.
Her movie 'Behind the green door' is about a young woman who was abducted and raped in a room full of perverts watching.
What she wanted she never got that is respect as a mainstream actress. I think she was a beautiful woman who lived a very sad life and died all alone in her trailer.

Marilyn was sweet and wonderful lady. Everyone who knew her loved her and will miss her. I would say one thing to Marcus is that it is people like him that spread hate and evil in the world. There should be a lot more Marilyn's and and lot less Marcuses and the world would be a much better place.

Please don't judge all Christians by the comments of a few idiots who call themselves Christian's but actually worship Satan by their actions of condeming others. Real Christians do not judge others.
Posted by: Parody | May 15, 2009 at 09:10 AM
Sure - idiot Christians like me who actually read the Bible. And who can discern the difference between "judging" and simply making a judgment call.
And why is it that the only versus some people know is the "don't judge" verse??!! What about the other versus: verses on Hell, eternal damnation, sins and death?
Here. Here is another verse about judgment that you should start quoting: "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment" (John 7:24)". See? He is saying we can judge! And how can you "judge" without being able to discern good from evil; right from wrong; darkness from light; sin and death - unless you know what these things are, how can you judge accordingly?
Porn is evil! People who star in Porn; produce porn and so on are doing evil. And no evil thing will go to Heaven, lest you repent. Don't be deceived as Marilyn was!! Only the clean and pure will enter Heaven.

A star has fallen and her flame burns in more...Rest In Peace

I was surprised when I saw her in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. She wanted to act in mainstream but her bills needed to be paid and porn was just beginning to be accepted as entertainment. At least she got paid.

Her many fans have lost a star, but her memory shines bright.

If you think her life was tragic why don't you say a prayer for her soul with all of your might?

Marilyn was a friend. She was a kind and loving person regardless of the paths she walked down. She had a big heart and a soft shoulder to lean on. The biggest tragedy in her life was being married to Chuck. Rest in peace Marilyn, there are those who will always love you for you, and the good person you were.
