Porn star Marilyn Chambers found dead in L.A. County home

Chambers250 Marilyn Chambers, a former Ivory Snow detergent model who became a porn star, died Sunday at her Canyon Country home. She was 56.

Chambers, whose real name is Marilyn Ann Taylor, was found unresponsive at 8:51 p.m. at her residence it the 16000 block of Vasquez Canyon, said Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter. The cause of death is under investigation but foul play was not suspected and an autopsy is pending.

Chambers became a pop culture phenomenon when she gave up work as a model advertising Ivory Snow laundry detergent to star in the X-rated "Behind the Green Door" in 1972.

The movie also sparked a buying frenzy on boxes of Ivory Snow soap, then graced by Chambers' angelically complexioned face.

I remember her well from the 1980s at the Casino Royal -- "The place to come to meet and eat". Ah, those were the good old days.
She loved everybody in Pittsburgh -- and everywhere else too.

In loving remembrance, Boston Bob.

Did they find her behind the green door?

SHE WILL BE MISSED...

Her movies on Cinemax got me through puberty god bless you. You will be missed.

Hmmm Ex-Porn star?
Had she been going to church lately?

What a SUPERSTAR; she knew God's plan for her and he is PLEASED!

How very sad, now heaven has another angel, and I have lost one of my beloved teachers and mentors.

Love her. She was a porn star wit class.

Marilyn was a friend. She was a kind and loving person regardless of the paths she walked down. She had a big heart and a soft shoulder to lean on. The biggest tragedy in her life was being married to Chuck. Rest in peace Marilyn, there are those who will always love you for you, and the good person you were.

@ August
You need help.
MC will be missed

She was in some non-porn films worth remembering, too, including as the star of David Cronenberg's excellent horror film "Rabid."

marilyn was an amazing person and a good friend.

Don't be deceived. Marilyn Chambers was an unrepentant prostitute of porn. She contributed to the sexual bondage of both men and women through her acts of wickedness.

She did not see heaven.

I just became friends with Marilyn Valentines Day of 2009. I gave her a beautiful portrait of her and my dear friend Seka together that was taken at the Los Angeles Erotic Film Festival years ago and she loved it. She just told me about a great present she had for me. We laughed and she spoke of her start in modeling. I was going to do all my Easter calls today but was woken up with this news. I've had so many friends take flight. The first was Savannah and GQ magazine ran five of those photos that we had created for my fashion assignment at school. I had an amazing shoot in my head for Marilyn. I'm appreciating the day and walking along the beach today with that smile of yours in my heart. I'll see you on the other side. Thank you for your stories, knowledge and most of all kindness.

Marcus: Nice you apparently have a list on who's going to heaven and who's not. Take your self-righteous statements somewhere else, pls.
Oh, and BTW: The biggest consumers of porn are the so-called "Family Values" states.

My heart is truly heavy tonight. I never knew Marilyn Chambers, but she also had a huge impact on my life. I think the entire adult industry owes her a debt of gratitude for exposing the adult genre to the mainstream market. In addition to her impact on the adult video world, she also had a political agenda which culminated in a run on the ballot as VP candidate (anyone remeber what party?). I am sorry that some don't recognize her passing as the loss of a beautiful, thoughtful, and foreward thinking woman. I wish her family and friends peace on their jounrey ahead.

She was such a special person, godspeed MC.

She sounds like the product of the modern liberal I want it now attitude that is so typical of California. Let all the filth that exploited her by supporting the porn industry pay for her funeral. Maybe they will go to her funeral to get their jollies off. What a sick industry and a sick state of mind.

Are you GOD?

There are some judgemental people who contributed comments and if you are a believer, you should know that it is not your place to be judgemental. If you've stayed on the strait and narrow path you should be humble and get down on your knees and thank GOD. Living the right way is its own reward and one shouldn't wish ill upon anyone. If you think her life was tragic why don't you say a prayer for her soul with all of your might?

A true class act and a wonderful lady.Marilynn you will be missed.

Marilyn Chambers was a beautiful person both inside and out.
Those who knew Marilyn will miss her very much.
Her many fans have lost a star, but her memory shines bright.

That's why we loved her...

Quote by Marcus:

"She did not see heaven."

And neither will you, since heaven isn't real. Quit deluding yourself and stop trying to use guilt as a way to get people to conform to the church's view of what is acceptable behavior.

Oh yeah, didn't you know, the gods just HATE porn. All that icky sex and stuff.
