San Diego man is arrested in beating of dog with tree branch

A 39-year-old San Diego man was arrested today on felony animal cruelty charges for allegedly beating his dog with a tree branch.

Gabriel Miguel Moreno was arrested and taken to San Diego County Jail in Vista after he went to the animal shelter in Carlsbad to reclaim his dog, an Australian cattle dog named Bandito.

The dog had been taken to the shelter Sunday after witnesses said Moreno beat it when it tried to eat his lunch at the Del Mar Horse Park. County Animal Control officers have impounded the dog, which will be offered for adoption once it recovers from injuries to its left eye and head.

HOORAY! I think San Diego Law Enforcement is setting a great example and I hope that disgusting person who commited such a cowardly act is prosecuted to the full and complete extent of the law. Not cool. Not cool at all!

I'm so sick of slimy people who are violent to begin with, taking their rage out on a helpless animal. He left the food where the dog could get it.....dogs eat what they can reach, it's instinct for them.
I think this slug should spend some time in prison and pay the fine. Most people of a certain temperament don't deserve to own an animal in the first place.

Slimy, violent types of people should not be allowed to own animals. He left the food where the dog could get it; dogs will eat what they can reach, it's simple instinct. This inhuman should get the full treatment; jail and fine.
