Two dead, one wounded in shooting

Two men died and a third was injured tonight in a possible gang-related shooting that stretched from Echo Park to Highland Park, police said.

Police were trying to determine whether a man in a black pickup truck committed all three shootings and whether the incidents were related.

The first victim was fatally struck in the 1600 block of Baxter Street in Echo Park at 5:02 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Officer Karen Smith.

The second shooting occurred a minute later around the corner, in the 2000 block of Echo Park Avenue. That victim was taken to a hospital, where he is in stable condition, Smith said.

The third shooting took place 28 minutes later about four miles away, in the 4300 block of Toland Way in Highland Park. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspected shooter and all three victims are Latinos. Smith could not immediately provide the victims’ names or ages.
