Missing Lancaster toddler is found dead [Update]

Lanowtoddler_2 Sheriff officials say missing toddler Emma Leigh Barker, 18 months,  was found dead. Her mother, a resident of the high desert,  reported her missing Wednesday.

The girl’s mother, Stacy Barker, said that she was knocked unconscious after hitting her head on the steering wheel of her car at Lancaster Park and awoke hours later at a Palmdale park-n-ride with her daughter missing. The mother told detectives that she was at Lancaster City Park on Wednesday sometime after 5 p.m. when she was placing her daughter in a car seat and  hit her head.

She told detectives that she awoke about 10:30 p.m., slumped over in the seat of her car at a Palmdale park-and-ride, and discovered Emma was missing. The mother's brother called authorities, and deputies were dispatched to the Avenue S Park-n-Ride.

Deputies found the mother semiconscious and partially undressed with visible contusions on her head, officials said.

What a horrific ending ... such a tragedy. I can not imagine the grief the family must be feeling. On TV, the grandparents looked so concerned and so sincere. The news stations showed the little girl's picture ... she looked so sweet. I hope the perpetrator of this crime is caught and punished to the full extent of the law.

What kind of animal is this to kill an innocent child. I hope they find him or her, put them in jail and throw away the key.

Unfortunately, it will turn out that the Mom was the killer. The facts are too suspicious.

Emma Leigh is our great-granddaughter. Please keep her in your prayers.

This is such a horrific tragedy. However, there is no reason for anybody to be putting blame on her mother.. you don't know what happened nor do you know her mother. Until you lose somebody you love in a highly publicised tragedy, you don't know what it feels like to read negative and heartless comments by people who know absolutely nothing about the victim nor their family. I unfortunately have been in that situation and believe me, it makes the grieving process much much harder. She was such a beautiful baby girl. Justice will be served but everyone- please save your judgements and your assumptions. This is hard enough for the family as it is.

RIP Baby Emma

We are all shocked at events and details that we have heard and read over the last few days. Her mom is a wonderful person, always with a smile on her face and always speaking of her daughter. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Barker Family in their time of pain and suffering. We all pray especially for "Baby Emma and Stacy!"

I have known the Barker family for quite a few years so this tragedy is especially close to my heart. PLEASE be sensitive about what you write on this blog.

I pray they find the killer. If you know anything about this, please go forward to the police. It is the right thing to do.

Barker family - I'll call KB to see if I can help with anything. I am so sorry about Emma. My prayers are with you.

I was up crying all night for emma and her family i have a little baby emmas age and could only imagine how the family feels right now my thoughts and prayers go out to you im sooo sorry.

I have know the grand parents for years I think they were the age of their daughter when we meet . Lived in the same apt complex in Sylmar . They are both great people and with out a doubt so are their children . Prayers to Sue and Gary . Miss you and always in my Heart.

I understand that some of you may know this person, or possibly even be related to her. But, please, open your eyes and don't be so naive. The mother (and I use that term loosely) manufactured a ridiculous story to conceal the death, or murder, or an infant! Those of you that are defending and creating diversions to shield and protect the guilty are no better than the one,or ones, responsible for this crime. Law, or no law, the truth is gonna come out.

this little angel was so beautiful. its so hard to believe that she died at the hands of her own mother. i really hope it was an accident. i can not imagine how a little 18month old can be so much of a burden to do it intentionally. i pray every night for the family and honestly hope it was an accident. it breaks my heart to see her pictures she was sooo beautiful!

im so sorry about this whole situation my prayers go out to the mom and grandparents, sometimes things happen and we panic not knowing what to do,maybe this was the case with Emmas mom but we are no one to judge lets all keep them all in our prayers and hope for the best blessings to the family...monica from lancaster ca.

No one knows yet if she died at the hands of her mother, the fact that she has not been taken into custody says LE is waiting for tox results as autopsy was inconclusive. I'm sure the family is heart broken, they're in my prayers.

Bobby along with other savvy intelligent people knew from the get go that the "mother" was guilty. Just as Bobby stated here, and was obvious to many others as well, is that the "mother's" actions were very suspicious! To the defenders of the one responsible- you jump on board right away saying there is no reason to blame the "mother"!!! I didn't see any of the non- believers firing back at the "defenders" for proclaiming what a wonderful person this monster of a "mother" is. I hope the defenders realize how they put their foot in their mouths and now have egg on their face! Especially Monica!! That's pretty sick of you to say that sometimes things happen and "we" (?) panic not knowing what to do??!!
Ones who are NOT GUILTY- do know what to do!! They immediately call 911, or in a panic, drive to the hospital ASAP to get help! Guilty ones try and cover their crimes by lying about what happened. There was no excuse- even for the one responsible for causing her baby's death- to throw their baby away like trash!!!! That is vile, despicable, and unforgivable!!
