Mystery fax to KTLA leads to bizarre homicide case [Updated]

March 8, 2009 | 10:26 am

An autopsy will be performed Monday on the body of a woman found slain in the trunk of her car.  The body was found Saturday afternoon when police followed up on a tip faxed to KTLA.

The body of 22-year-old Denise Figueroa of North Hills was found in the trunk of a black Nissan Altima in the 11700 block of Hortense Street shortly before 2 p.m.  The vehicle was registered to the woman, according to police.

At 1:16 p.m. Saturday, KTLA received a fax addressed to "To whom it may concern" from "someone trying to help."  The fax included the names of two possible suspects.

The fax stated that a homicide had been committed Feb. 28 and described an area where the car and the body could be found.  The fax said the body was in a black trash bag in the trunk of the car.

Updated, 2:18 p.m.: An earlier version of this post said the autopsy would be conducted today. In fact, it will be performed Monday. For more details, see this newer post on L.A. Now.
