Woman killed in crash on rain-slicked street [UPDATED]

February 5, 2009 |  9:06 pm

Updated at 7:20 a.m. Friday: The woman who was killed in the crash in Pacoima on Thursday was identified this morning as Marlene Fraire, 20, of Pacoima,  officials with the Los Angeles County coroner's office said.

Rain-slicked roads may have contributed to an accident in Pacoima this evening that killed a woman and critically injured her husband and young child, authorities said.

The family's sedan was struck by a truck about 5 p.m. in the 12000 block of Osborne Street, according to d'Lisa Davies of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters had to use tools to free the family from the wreck, she said, adding that the crash occurred in the same area that experienced heavy rain and other accidents earlier in the day.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Davies said. The father was taken by ambulance to a trauma center, and the child was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The driver of the truck refused treatment, Davies said.
