Paparazzo friend of Britney Spears faces assault charges
The tabloid photographer who squired Britney Spears around town during the chaotic period surrounding her hospitalizations is now facing felony assault charges.
The L.A. County district attorney’s office alleges the singer’s former boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, 36, rammed his car into a man who was trying to serve a temporary restraining order barring him from contact with Spears.
The process server was looking for Ghalib at his Encino apartment Jan. 30 when the photographer drove his Mercedes toward him, prosecutors said. The man jumped onto the hood of the car and then fell off, suffering a broken wrist, prosecutors said.
The arrest warrant charges Ghalib with assault with a deadly weapon, battery and hit-and-run. He faces seven years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors are expected to ask that bail be set at $110,000.
A lawyer for Ghalib did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
A hearing on the restraining order is slated for Wednesday morning. Ghalib has not attended prior proceedings in the case, nor sent an attorney to dispute the allegations by Spears’ father, James, that he is threatening the singer.
