Rihanna cooperating with police in assault investigations

February 9, 2009 |  6:33 pm

R&B star Rihanna is cooperating with investigators building a domestic violence case against her boyfriend, the singer Chris Brown, a police source said today.

The source said the 20-year-old performer, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, is providing “ongoing” cooperation with detectives who booked Brown on Sunday on suspicion of making criminal threats against her.

An early-morning altercation with Brown following a pre-Grammy Awards party left Rihanna with bruises and a scratch to her face, according to police sources. Her injuries were treated at a “major medical facility,” a police source said.

Brown, a 19-year-old with a double-platinum record and dance moves frequently compared to those of Michael Jackson, had fled before officers arrived, police said.

He remained free on $50,000 bail, but neither he nor his attorney would speak about allegations that rocked the Grammys ceremony. Both Brown and Rihanna were nominated, but neither attended the ceremony.

The fight occurred after midnight on a quiet block in Hancock Park, where Brown had stopped a rented Lamborghini he was driving. According to police, several people saw or heard a loud, violent confrontation. The luxury car was impounded because the alleged assault may have begun in the vehicle, a police source said.

We all knew when we heard about the incident that it was Rhianna! It's sad that two of the biggest music stars in Pop and R&B right now have to resort to a public physical confrontation that carried over from a party. Shame on you Chris for even putting your hands on her! Then you left her there! You don't know what is ahead of you in the L.A.criminal justice system! What a waste! I wish the best for both of them, and the truth will come out in days ahead.

Domestic violence is terrible, no matter who you are! My prayers for the best with Rihanna!

i love chris brown with all my heart but its just a shame that he hit on her that way...i really wish rihanna the best of luck and you know real talk till today when i found out about this nobody couldtell me that chris was with rihanna but...i guess now i have to believe it..i really wish the best of the luck for chris and rihanna i hope he didnt do as much as damage as it seems bruises..and scratches on the face i love you rihanna and chris....just take a break from eachothe be friends and im not just sayin this because of coarse its chris but because it might be the best thing for them right now..

Poor Chris. His life wasn't easy and I understand his step dad beat his Mom which he hated. Clearly, Chris has some very deep scars that he thought he had a handle on, but doesn't. He will need to get help so he will learn how to control his temper (if he did hit her). I'll bet Rhianna was the one who hit him first and then he flashes back to childhood, and before you know it Rhianna has a black eye and a scratch on her face. I blame both parties for letting an argument escalate to that point. Sometime it's best to just close your mouth(Rhianna). Takes two to argue. Plus, if you can't get along then you shouldn't be together in the first place.

YOUNG AND DUMB.

NOW THEY BOTH MUST PAY THE CONSEQUENCES.

I'm completely disgusted by Chris Browns actions. I hope he gets the punishment he deserves.

shame on him? like you said, the truth will come out in time, but what if its found out, that she put her hands on him first? i hope u say shame on her too, theres no more room in this world for double standards, thats the price of equality. Do onto others, as u would like others to do onto you. Shame on any one that has to resort to violence, (its usually females that like to hit first)

Unbelievable - what a man you are Chris! What an impressive man you are for getting violent with a woman.

Anyone wanna place bets as to the last time anyone (especially adults in his life) said 'no' to him?

What a little punk.

If you are a woman blaming Rhianna for what Chris Brown did to her ,then you need psychiatric help a.s.a.p. I understand that you were most likely abused by your father or an uncle that blamed you for their actions. I feel sorry for you and you should get help before you have your own kids and poison them also.
Chris Brown is a disgrace to the human race ,a little punk that deserves to lose all of his endorsements and spend a little time behind bars. Hopefully all Women around the world stop buying his music and make this the end of his career.
You don't hit women in a civilized society. Evidently you should move to a different country where this is acceptable behavior. No one here will miss you.

Chris Brown is clearly a scumbag.
Any man who hits a woman is a scumbag, regardless of their status.

Both should be ashame of theirselves. Don't matter who hit who, Both was in the wrong and at the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm ready for the truth to come out. I know Chris didn't hit her just to hit her. Something went down and we need both stories.

i do NOT believe that chris brown would do anything like this to her.... i do believe something happened but not to this extent! i think its getting blown out of proportion!!!!

Obviously there's a backstory to this mess... Drugs? Alcohol? A messed up childhood?
Both of them will need serious counseling after this... And if Chris Brown really beat her (it's all just rumors at this point) then he will have to "face the music", and rightly so.

I can't believe people are defending this coward. Tasha, Kay, and Ashley, if this was some regular guy off the street beating on a woman, would you imply that she did something to make him 'hit her just to hit her'. What a double standard. The fact is, she was beat down and left stranded.

My prayers are with Chris Brown im behind him 100% yall talkin down on him blaming him without knowing what happened!! what did she do to him? so just dont come out the woodworks blaming him for everything its her fault too!!!! i just hope Chris Brown learns from this situation and i hope he finds the right woman for him.Like i said i stand behind My Man 100%

"My prayers are with Chris Brown im behind him 100% yall talkin down on him blaming him without knowing what happened!" I hope you get beaten next so we can say the same thing about your attacker. Hope you DIAF slowly.

Who are these nobodies? Is she the one hit wonder that sang the old song umbrella? Wasn't that last summer? Are you all so stuck on the fake music you're sold that you can't come up with something better then her?

And him? Hope he dies. Beating a lady makes you a lady. Only men can handel themselves to the end. He isn't anything near it. He is a dog more then anything with the way he ran from his responsibilities at first.

But that is the Pop Rap Hop way right?

What a couple of douches. Pop-music douches.

Women are not equal to men. This proves it. The female sex will always back their kind, no matter what the evidence might or might not say. In the mind of the typical female, Brown has already been tried, convicted and in hopes for a public lynching that would include some form of castration. The Violence Against Women Act is one of the most sinister and destructive pieces of legislation to the fabric of American society. One that breeds and perpetuates the inequality. If the female sex truly views it's position as equal to the male sex no "special" law would be condoned. Talk about wanting your pie and eating it too. But what is new in Barbie land? Oh yeah, that's right, she turned 50!

I say this to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop acusing one another. I am a chris brown and rhianna fan.
Hopefully rhianna wounds willl heal and she can get back on her feet
really soon. For chris i hope that he realizes what he did was wrong and
apologizes for it. I personally don't want to loose either artists in this situation.

Man all of u ppl blaming Chris Brown are full of it. You cant judge someone based on what you have heard. If you didnt see him put his hands on Rihanna then shut the hell up!!!! I absolutley love Chris Brown and I believe that if he has done any of this that has been said then he will have to face the consequences btu Rihanna is no angel, who knows maybe she just blamed him. Who knows what happened, and until we do know the facts PLEASE STOP ATTACKIN HIM U WOULDNT LIKE IT IF THE WHOLE WORLD TALKED SMACK ABOUT YOU WHEN U DIDNT EVEN DO ANYTHING! U SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF URSELFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a shame, but listen some women provoke men both verbally & physically.. so take that into consideration before you judge

I think this is shame, sounds like they both played a major role in this situation...but no matter what putting hands on a women is a no no... for one a guy can do alot more damage ...period, if she hit him she is very wrong too, no doubt about that!...To young and too immature to handle the stress of a relationship, this happened quite often with your relationships, there very intense and when maturity is not there things can go very wrong...hope they both work on their issues, Best of luck you both are in my prayers!

It's about time sponsors pull the plug on these spoiled role models. I will buy DoubleMint gum forever!

I believe people shouldn't judge based on what you hear on the radio, see on the news, or even read about in the paper. Reading everything that's posted here is really sad. I think chris is a nice guy and rihanna is a nice girl. They are both young and immature to be in a relationship at this age. Even if us women don't want to accept the fact that we deep inside really are more insecure when it comes to men and self image. Men whether we like it or not will always be men self centered and egotistic that by all means doesn't signify that i'm defending either of them but if in fact is really did happen we must hear both sides of the story not just because she is a woman she will take advantage of this situation and become the victim women are 97% always the victims but people are forgeting that men have rights as well. Maybe Chris could be a victim too has anyone stopped for a minute and thought about that. So why don't we all stop hatting on Chris and Rihanna and wait to listen to both I and I mean both parties involved and until they do that this will all unfold.

For all of you who are defending him - Chris Brown made arrangements through his attorney to turn himself in to be arrested on a charge that carries a max of nine years in prison. Why would an "innocent" man do that? Do you realize there was a witness too? Yes, the person who heard Rihanna's screams and called 911 and reported the fight. Add to that - Chris has no visible injuries, but Rihana does. He's guilty.

No matter who started the fight, Chris should have walked away and saved himself and his career in the process.

I am a fan of both Chris and Rihanna. I hope things will resolve itself and the both of them realizing and learned from this incident. They are both great artist. I will continue to support the both of them which ever way they choose to go.

There should be NO reason good enough for a man to hit a woman (unless he is doing it in reasonable self defense). Provoking? A man should be able to walk away, not get ruled by his temper so much that he strikes out. Yes women should be able to as well, though in general, a punch from a woman to a man won't do nearly the damage that a punch from a man to a woman would. Don't make excuses for domestic violence. There is no reason good enough to justify it.

I don't know what happened with these two, but it makes me sad seeing so much complacency regarding physical abuse.

i love chris brown dont hate himm b kuz he back handed her
i still love him no mater wat ok his nummber 1 fan brandi brown haterzz

I do not care what Rhianna was doing. Chris Brown should have been a man and walked away without touching her. I think it's pretty ironic that he is an advocate for Domestic violence.

As has already been said - we do not know all the facts. Nevertheless, I cannot believe there are females actually supporting the male possibly abusing the female in this situation - even without knowing the full story. What are you all drinking? Bring your brains back up north - remove them from down south - stop thinking with that brain.

A good thing to do is wish them both well, even when the truth comes out. Everybody makes mistakes but it is not up to us to judge them, unless we want to be judged. Skeletons can be found in most of our closets.

you don't hit a woman - simple as that.

Why aren't we standing by Chris Brown's side like everyone do for Michael Phelps. All he had to do was apologize and say he was careless and he lose only 1 endorsement. That's the problem with our society. We don't stick together. I'm not saying Chris Brown was right for putting his hands on Rihanna, but he deserve just as many prayers as she do. He should come out with a public apology and we should have his back.

I can't believe he would hit a woman. No man should ever touch a woman. Its a poor example he has set. I would never purchase a Chris Brown CD again.

First off I want to say. I believe he hit her and we all know he did. However, they are both young. I am in no means saying it's acceptable, I hoped she fought back and if it has been an ongoing thing she needs to bounce, and should have long ago. I wouldn't and don't think she should be cooperating with the police to build a case against this brother. This is a young man with a very promising future, as is she a talented young female. Why ruin this man's life over a learning experience? Okay we see he got anger issues he need to get some help, but her scars will heal, she can move on at this point and learn something herself. No one benefits from involving the cops to this extent. In my opinion everyone want to talk about Chris needing help, she does too if she doesn't know how to halt things without all this outside intervention. Rihanna holla at your mama or your girls, gotta be stronger than that. Don't let no man put his hands on you, pick up something and knock the hell out of him back! Then move around. Bottom line they need to let this go, I'm sure he's sorry, if you gotta hit the person time to move on. I do wonder what the hell the fight was about thought, DAM. Good luck you two. Rihanna if you ever loved the brother, weigh this situation, you don't need to send him to jail to grow from this or punish him. Learn from it and move forward baby girl.

Well, no one should be surprised. Chris lived with an abusive step father for a number of years growing up -- this is the behavior that was modeled for him. All women who stay with men who abuse them should be warned. Chris has to learn to deal with all the anger he's internalized and relearn how to be in a relationship with a woman. Everyone makes mistakes, Chris is just in the public eye so it would be harder.

Shame on everyone for saying Rihanna did something to provoke this. Everyone must take responsibility for their own behavior. Chris has to take responsibility for his choices.

Seriously? You are comparing Chris Brown to Michael Phelps? Michael's decision didn't cause physical harm to anyone else. An apology doesn't cut it for domestic violence! If everthing has gone down like they are saying, the only thing that will redeem him is agreeing to get help.

Honestly I believe that Chris and Ri Ri has climbed tremendously high up their ladder of success to fall down now. Now I am not going to take any sides because there is two sides to every story.... however, I will say that he should not have put his hands on her especially considering the fact his mother experienced abusive incidents and he knows first hand how it made him feel when it happened to her... it wasn't a good feeling at all, so how do you think this party feels about this incident.... nothing is worth your sanity or freedom!

Best advice - grow up and act responsibility.

I DON'T THINK CHRIS BROWN HIT HER JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT SHE MUST HAVE DID SOMTHING HIM, RUMORS ARE IS DAT SHE PASSED HIM SOMETHING. AND IF HE DID DO IT FOR THE FUN OF IT.... THINK ABOUT IT HE GREW UP IN A HOUSE WHERE HE AND HIS MOTHER WERE GETTING ABUSED DAT ALSO TAKES AFFECT ON A PERSON'S LIFE.

I just want to say we dont know what went on before he tap the butt .she went somewhere she had no buisiness going and he had reach his limit . Lets just wait till the whole story comes out . I wouldnt doubt that she pass the first blow . I'm 55 yrs old and I know women will take it as far as they can and dare you to to do something about it. My friend and I are going over some of the incidents we have seen thru the years.

He is a scumbag and she is too pretty to be going with him. I hope she finds another boyfriend because she doesn't need him.

Re: Chris'n'Rihanna
Who's more pathetic, them or we who care?

I dont know what happen to my prior post but as I read some of the comments here people saying they wont buy another Chris Brown CD I'm thinking most people done already convicted the boy and aint got a clue what happen .what kind of shape was he in ? I wonder what would people think if she had left him on the side of the road with a fat lip.

a rental hahahaha

Whatever happened that night between Rihanna and Chris, he should have been man enough to keep driving and let her out someplace where she could have gotten a cab or callled a friend to take her home.

I bet whatever was going on, he wished he would have done the right thing. I bet now he is kicking himself because he stands to lose alot.

It shouldn't matter if she hit him first. The reaction is severely disproportionate to the initial offence.

There is absolutely no excuse for a man to hit a woman. The only reason men hit woman is because they are scared little gimps who can't handle the thought of taking on another equal, such as another man. So they hit woman instead. Try it with me or mine soulja-boy, see what happens.

Disgusting.

We all know the truth in this horrible incident. Now we must asks ourselves, is this the type of role model that we want our children to look up to? A man who beats his lady the queen of all who rules life? Not at all, so in the case of Chris Brown,"we shall watch your career fade like stone-washed jeans". This should be interesting.

In todays society we all make mistakes and regret the outcome. People always try to judge other people for something they really don't know what happen because they wasn't there. We need to come together and not always try to critcize others. I hope that the altercation between chris and rihanna gets resolve properly. Who are we to judge if we were all perfect. One thing people need to understand that we are not perfect only one mans is and thats ''GOD''. I dont know them but i hope the situation get resolve regardless of who started it shouldn't never went that far but it did. While everyone out there trying to say negative thing toward someone they don't know look at yourself are you perfect i think not. Because he is a star people seems to put all of their personal business in the streets for everyone to see or read, but i work at jail and this thing just don't happen to star it happen to everyone. I care about what happen to all that get hurt weather they are famous or not. I understand thats they are famous but they are also humans. Im not on anyones side becauses I do not no what happen because anyone could be the blame. In the end if she was the one started what kind of names will you be calling her. Women fight just as much as men. Mself personally will not stand by and let no one hit me especially a man. So my comments to all of those that is try to judge or point finger don' t ge judge for trying to judge someone else k. LOVE EVERYONE WE ALL ARE HUMAN AND GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES AND LIVE AND DEAL WITH THEM.

I have no tolerance for a man who would do that to a woman, I don't care how talented you are or how much I like your music. So if it ends up he did it, I won't be supporting anything he does.

brandi brown...you need to grow up, learn how to type, and just because you enjoy getting back handed doesn't mean everyone else does. Have some self respect and try not to be a tool. And that goes to everyone else that stands up for a man (I mean boy) who choses to use his fists instead of walking away. He deserves what he gets as do you.

love you both you are in my prayers.stop judging him because only one side spoke so far.Jay-Z should know better and start acting his age.he could also be doing the same thing to Beyonce behind close doors,it might be his guilt that caused him to open his mouth.best of luck

i am with chris brown 100% i was at his concert on the 3rd of january in london he was the best.as for jay Z he should try to keep quiet and lay low you're too big to put your mouth in a man and a woman matter let them sort their own problem tby hem self.all my best for both of them and hope they get back together.

look at what your doing to the both of them people!! you all know thier both hurt and you all know that their two sides of the story!!. why dont you just wait untill you know the whole stery?. stop acting all big and bad just because you got someone to blame!! you all know that its wrong!. every body knows that people are automaticly going to point fingers at chris brown!! he had a poor child hood im not taking any sides im here to say whats rite!! and stand up for what i belive in and some of you out there that are acually listening thank you for listening. im only a 14 year old kid what else can i say?.

I am disgusted there are girls that are trying to defend Chris. It doesn't matter what Rihanna did to him, no one DESERVES to be physically assaulted, male or female. I understand you're fans but please do not try to justify what he did, admit that what he did was wrong and he is responsible for his actions despite his childhood and despite what Rihanna allegedly did to provoke him.
If he can't control his temper, that's his problem.

I hope he is punished for this. I don't think his career will be affected in a huge way, judging by the amount of girls still supporting him but he should have to face some sort of consequences.

I heard about the incident between two of the biggest stars, which I enjoy listening to their music (Chris Brown and Rihanna ).Chris Brown was in the wrong for putting his hands on Rihanna, although it was for a excellent motivation. I do not understand why is everyone calling Chris brown all these names. Put yourself in his shoes what if your girlfriend lie to you and told you she did not have anything. This would have never happen if Rhianna was truthful in the begin.I think it was immoral for Rhianna to maintain that surreptitious for extended time, but what you do in the dark shall come out into the light. I pray that Chris Brown do not have herpes. That's for life so who would want Chris if he had herpes?

No one knows what exactly happen that night. I like them both; but I support Chris Brown more. I pray that all is good and that all ends up good for him. Have any of you ever seen the movie "Thin line between love and hate". No one of his character would openly hit someone without a purpose. Who's to say that she did not hit him first. Whatever the case is or isn't, everyone needs to stay out of their business and let them fix this since it was them that was involed in this. Both of you be blessed!!!

i think both of them where in the wrong tryingto beat on each other there is no reason for all of that

Obviously Rihanna did something to make Chris hit her. It's not at all okay for him to hit her but they are both wrong in this situation. They both need lots of help and to get there lives together. For the people that think just because he hit her all his fan should stop supporting him you're def. out of your mind. I will support Chris Brown until he hits me. (Which isn't going to happen) So I'm going to support him to the end. I never excepted him to be abusive but things happen and people make mistakes and he apologized and wants help. I hope the best for him. As well as Rihanna. I hope she will be okay and he will get the help he needs.

chris you are so wrong for putting your hands on rihanna no matter what u should have walked away sometimes that is the best thing to do and rihanna the best thing for you is to walk away if a man hit you once he will do it again trust me been there done that. you are beautiful you may forgive him but you will not forget him get better soon and move on i love your music so keep up the good work.

well...... I think that chris brown is wrong 4 wat he did. hell thats wat i gotta say about it

Blantantly we don't need both stories.
Did you ever think about the fact this is nothing to do with anyone but them.

Yes they live in the public eye and yes this happened in public but who are we to judge anything? We don't know them or the full story and this is they're lives. Everyone should just butt out and stop speculating already.

Both will do what they feel needs to be done and will get on with they're own lives. They certainly don't need the entire world talking about such a personal and probably humiliating experience for them both.

There are three sides to this story...Rihanna's side Chris's side and the real TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!

omg y cai'n Chris B rown be a nice guy like he was before!!!!!!!!!! Now he's just plain STUPID !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that everybody needs to stop judging people && jumping to conclusions. Because you werent there that night && i wasnt there that night the only two people that were that night was Rihanna && Chris brown. Of course Chris Brown was wrong for what he did to her but there young && in love so let them be i hope there relationship learns from this i really do. && i think we should stay out of there buisness && lett them work out their problems. && im still going to support their carrers not matter what they decide to do if your a real fan you wont stopp. Im a real fan of both of them
