Pastor Rick Warren delivers the invocation at
President Obama's inauguration.

Pastor Rick Warren will be the featured speaker at tomorrow’s 36th Annual Los Angeles Mayor's Breakfast at the downtown Westin Bonaventure Hotel. It promises to be an interesting morning because Warren and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa were on opposite sides of last year’s debate over same-sex marriage.

The pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest created a stir when he was selected to deliver the invocation at President Obama’s inauguration because he had endorsed Proposition 8, which amended the state Constitution to declare that "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

Since the proposition passed in November, hundreds of protesters have gathered near Warren's Orange County church to condemn his position on the issue.

Villaraigosa actively campaigned against Proposition 8 and officiated at a number of same-sex marriages.

The prayer breakfasts were started by then-Mayor Tom Bradley in 1973. Past speakers have included Billy Graham, Pat Boone, the Rev. Robert Schuller and Rosey Grier.

The breakfast's website says walk-ins are welcome. For tickets, call (323) 735-1137 Ext. 170. The cost is $28.50 per person.

They are both hypocrites and sleazbags.

This is totally gross. It was a mistake by Obama, but at least he has the excuse of being in charge of an entire country with a lot of more conservative people than in LA. This is an insult to all progressives in LA and to the entire LGBT community. Villaraigosa for nothing!

Shame on anyone who try's to interfere with the happiness of others. It's a little late for this, let it go. This is the pursuit of happiness for many Americans.

In re to Mark Hebert's post: "let it go. This is the pursuit of happiness for many Americans"... What happened to the "pursuit of happiness for ALL AMERICANS?" So many conservatives believe that they can sweep Gays under the rug of "perfect wonderfulness". All the while, Gay children are being born to them, their children, their children's children. There will be a day when they will not be able to have a "conservative rug" big enough cover all their unwanted products. Sow discrimination...and you will reap discrimination!
That's in the Bible!

I think it's a bit like that Hannity and Colmes show. FOX deliberately selects a complete idiot to lead the liberal side, and Hannity tosses him every time. In this case, Warren is Hannity, and Villaraigosa is Colmes. It's bull, it's not fair to anybody fighting for pursuit of happiness, and to be honest, I'm sick of trying to fight people like Focus on the Family and Rick Warren for what should rightfully be my choice to decide who I want to marry in my life.
