*Lanes reopened after traffic jam on I-10 in West Covina

January 7, 2009 |  7:12 am

All lanes but one on the westbound Interstate 10 in West Covina are closed this morning, and traffic is backed up for more than 1 1/2 miles after a fatal motorcycle accident, California Highway Patrol authorities said.

The motorcycle went down at 5:51 a.m. west of the South Vincent Avenue exit, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos. The driver of the motorcycle, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Only the far right lane is open on the westbound freeway near Vincent Avenue. CHP officials aren't sure when the other lanes will be reopened. Investigators are trying to determine whether another vehicle was involved in the accident and what caused the motorcycle to crash, Villalobos said.

*UPDATE: All lanes of the westbound I-10 in West Covina were reopened at 9:10 a.m., Villalobos said.
