The eco-friendly hot dog? Only in Silver Lake

January 12, 2009 |  8:00 pm

Leave it to Silver Lake to become home to a gourmet, eco-friendly hot dog stand. The Times' Jessica Gelt tells us all about the Let's Be Frank Gourmet Hot Dog truck -- and how it has finally found a place to stop:

Sue Moore, the stand's operator, "came with friends of hers to the store, and we had known about her truck," says Randy Clement, co-owner of Silverlake Wine. "So when she wanted to park her truck here about a month and a half ago for a trial run, we were thrilled. And people really dug it." Clement says Moore sold nearly 300 of her grass-fed beef hot dogs and brats during the five hours that the truck was open in front of the wine store. Moore regularly parks her truck at the Helms Bakery in Culver City and the Otheroom in Venice, but she had been looking for a good spot on the Eastside. ... If you've ever driven past the Cha Cha on a busy night you've seen the hordes of tipsy, hungry-looking clientele sucking down cigarettes out front.  Betting that they'd be attracted to an eco-conscious gourmet hot dog truck that charges less than the price of a cocktail for a link with fancy fixings and sources its beef humanely, is like betting that there will be a party in Hollywood on Inauguration Day.
