4-year-old fatally shot near Angelino Heights [UPDATED]

A 4-year-old boy was shot and killed this afternoon near Angelino Heights, Los Angeles police officials reported.

The circumstances of the shooting, which was reported in the 1200 block of Court Street about 4:25 p.m., were not immediately clear. There were reports it involved a drive-by shooting.

But the boy died after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest, said LAPD spokeswoman Karen Smith.

Updated, 6:45 p.m.: Police have now told us that the boy was 4, not 5, as was first reported.

Updated, 9 p.m.: An earlier version of this post stated the shooting occurred in Angelino Heights. It occurred in a neighborhood south of Angelino Heights.
