Grocery store worker preyed on elderly, police say

January 5, 2009 |  5:12 pm

A Victorville grocery store clerk has been arrested for allegedly stealing wallets and change purses from half a dozen elderly victims.

Then, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials say, Geneva Macon added insult to injury by telling her victims they could get their property back "for a price."

Sheriff's investigators took at least seven reports of wallets and change purses stolen during November and December at the King's Ranch Market in the 14000 block of 7th Street.

Detectives believe that the thefts took place as Macon was assisting the customers to their vehicles, whether her help was needed or not.

Macon has been booked on charges of extortion, petty theft with a prior conviction and crimes against elders, San Bernardino County Sheriff's spokeswoman Karen Hunt said in statement.
