'Riot Hyatt' hotel on Sunset Strip gets some refinement

January 8, 2009 | 10:31 am

Building The old Hyatt on the Sunset Strip -- the one with all the stories about rockers destroying rooms and doing other unspeakable things -- will reopen today as the more refined Andaz. The midcentury-modern look is gone, replaced with a sleek, floor-to-ceiling luxury loft look. Curbed L.A. checks in on the project, nicely summarized by "sober and grown up."

The notable element of the hotel is the glass windows which have replaced the famous balconies where all those rock star shenanigans went down (Keith Richards dropping tvs, etc). Now everyone is older, wiser, and getting paunchy. And drop kicking a flat-screen plasma TV into Sunset Blvd just doesn't go over well in these environmentally-friendly times. Photo-wise, there are just a few shots of the rooms on the web site, which also lists prices ranging from $295-$445 a night.
