L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas names healthcare deputy
Shortly after the announcement, Ridley-Thomas introduced Vera to the public at a news conference at John Muir Middle School in South Los Angeles. He said Vera, who was director of the health advocacy group LA Health Action, will focus on improving healthcare in the second district and reopening Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital.
"Yolanda will add great value to our team as a top-flight advocate who has thoroughly examined county health services," Ridley-Thomas said.
Vera is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and UCLA Law School, leads the health committee of the L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce and has served on the board of the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California and the Centinela Medical Fund.
