'Jackass' star Johnny Knoxville detained at LAX over inert grenade
"Jackass" star Johnny Knoxville was cited at Los Angeles International Airport this morning for allegedly trying to bring an inert grenade into a plane.
Knoxville allegedly had the grenade in a carry-on bag. It was noticed by a screener as the actor was about the board an American Airlines flight, officials told The Times.
LAX authorities detained Knoxville and issued him a citation for attempting to bring a "prohibited item" on a plane.
The grenade had no fuse or powder. The incident is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.

I bet it they were going to do some type of gag and video tape it. Watch in the next couple of days.

That's right, Mick.
Same as a pistol with no bullets-it can't hurt anyone, right?
No big deal. (eyeroll)

GOOD CATCH!!! I'D SAY.

Having seen that show... It wouldn't surprise me if one of his "friends" hid it in his bag as a joke.... Not funny.

Given the apparent skill level of the average TSA screener, I bet he had to point it out to them. Agree with H, likely a stunt.

Like the rest of his career: a dud.
Posted by: DFC | January 15, 2009 at 02:11 PM
He might have been trying to prove that he could get one on the plane and the stunt backfired (so to speak.)

LOL, the TSA is the most useless and worthless 3 letter agency there is. Total waste of dollars!

They should send him to jail. Its bs and its painfully obvious that he is going to use his celebrity status to get out of this, just like every other crime he's committed. Any other person who had done the same thing would be being briefed by the FBI at this point.
I hope they send him to prison for a good five years to teach him a lesson.

Send him to jail for what? Its not an explosive. Its not a bomb. Its essentially a toy. The law says you cannot bring a bomb on a plane. Well, that is missing 2 important pieces to be a bomb. Namely fuel and a fuse. It is essentailly the exact same thing as bringing a 2liter bottle on a plane, or a pvc pipe. Of course it can be used as a bomb, but without the fuel and the fuse it is something else entirely.

Wow, a inert grenade, good thing we have the TSA to keep us safe from a cylindrical metal container!!! God knows what kind of damage he might have caused with that... LOL
Gimme a break, END THE TSA

I dont see an issue hear. You can't tell if a grenade is live or not with just an x-ray. Would you rather them just assume one or the other?? It's stupid either way to bring such a blatant object on a plane. Shoulda known better.
Posted by: Andrew | January 15, 2009 at 04:36 PM
5 years in prison? Are you mad?
Posted by: Adam | January 15, 2009 at 04:55 PM
you guys are retarded... he was released. It was just a prop from a photoshoot he did.
no fuse and no intent to blow up anything... why the hell would you be going to prison for that!?
Posted by: khuuster | January 15, 2009 at 05:13 PM
I LOVE YOU KNOXVILLE
Posted by: bill | January 15, 2009 at 05:14 PM
If the screener did not stop the grenade (what if it was active) it would have been a problem, and since they did stop it , its a problem...you cant win for losing!
Posted by: Tee | January 15, 2009 at 05:26 PM
except that you can tell if a grenade has been de activated with an exray, as there is no firing pin or any other internal mechanism's. The TSA are useless thieves who can get away with pretty much anything. However, he was probably arrested for being a mouthy twit to another mouthy with with authority.

In many states, even possessing an inert or training grenade is a potential felony.
California Happens to be one of them.
"California Penal Code Section 12020

is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year
or in the state prison:

he should have some punishment but not 5 years ... i mean any of us "regular" people would have a price to pay why not him? if his name were bob smith everyone would say what a idiot he knows nowadays you cant do stuff like that so.....
Posted by: missi | January 16, 2009 at 05:10 AM
You can't compare an inert grenade to a gun with no bullets. It only takes a bullet to arm a pistol but you can't quite arm an inert grenade. The inert grenade is useless. It's a prop.

Really I'm guessing that this was a prank from friends that just went horribly wrong, but it is still really funny!!!
Posted by: Angelica | January 16, 2009 at 11:06 AM
Im surprised TSA even noticed the grenade. Not long ago I passed through screening with a box of bullets in my carry on and they didnt even notice it. Found them in there while unpacking. TSA is a waste of time and money.

everyone who said anything about him deserving to go to jail are dimwits. he was arrested. retards. and they did what they would do to anyone in the same situation. shut up.
he got no star treatment losers.
Posted by: Bec | January 18, 2009 at 04:46 PM
if you go on his site - jackassworld - he has a couple notes up about it. it was totally an accident. he was on a photo shoot and someone stuck them in his bag by accident.
he was with his 13 y/o daughter and his girlfriend. he was not filming. it was not a stunt.
but i agree with most folks on here... what's the big deal? i could not do anything to the plane and the TSA found it. seems like a total non-story... but everyone loves to hate.

Look people, there is a reason that it is ilegal to take such an item on a plane. If you were sitting on a plane and another passenger produces what looks like a hand granade and says he'll set it if X Y or Z demands are not met, are you gonna ask him if you can inspect it to find out whether it is of any danger or not. No! you are going to sit down and make a nasty brown mess in your briefs. so are the steward and so will the pilot.
Why can;t yanks think side ways, frankly, you are all stupid, thats why the world is in such a mess!
