January 8, 2009 |  7:17 pm

A two-vehicle accident that left a motorist temporarily trapped in an overturned car has backed up traffic for miles along the southbound Ventura Freeway. From the Associated Press:

Southbound Highway 101 has been reduced to one lane in the San Fernando Valley because of a roll-over accident that critically injured one person. Traffic has been backed up for miles.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman d’Lisa Davies says paramedics extricated someone from the vehicle that rolled on the freeway Thursday evening in Sherman Oaks. Two people in another vehicle suffered minor injuries.

California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin says the accident is blocking four lanes.

The accident was first reported at 5:49 p.m., the AP reports.
