Crash backs up traffic on I-10 [UPDATED]

January 13, 2009 |  7:11 am

A three-car crash near the Midcity area of Los Angeles backed up traffic on westbound Interstate 10 this morning from South La Cienega Boulevard to the 110 Freeway.

The accident occurred in the far-right lane of the 10 Freeway about 5:30 a.m. at the La Cienega exit, said Officer Francisco Villalobos, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers responded minutes later, moving the three damaged cars onto the La Cienega on-ramp to keep traffic on the freeway from being blocked, Villalobos said.

Traffic has backed up to the 110 Freeway interchange as drivers slow down to see what’s going on, he said. The cars on the La Cienega on-ramp should be cleared soon, Villalobos said. There were no injuries.

Update, 8:22 a.m.: The 10 Freeway on-ramp at La Cienega Boulevard was reopened at 7:23 a.m. and traffic is now flowing smoothly, CHP officials said. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
